As far as brands go, Mushkin has really served me well over the years. This past year I started using Corsair and Kingston, and they too have worked wonderfully for me. As for the type of ram, if you don't intend to overclock, there's really no point in spending a lot of money on the low latency rams. The money saved would be better spent on a faster processor or a higher end video card.

Good luck with your new build!

What price range are you looking at and what kind of system are you building? Generally for me only like to use corsair or crucial, since I have yet to have a memory related problem with my systems.

I'm grabbing some pc 4000 crucial ballistix soon. I have NEVER had a single problem with crucial. Most ram now days comes with lifetime warranty anyhow.

Corsair + Crucial are the only brands I use.

well at the moment (the plan does change) is to get a package deal from like this http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1600927&sku=MBV-6600LE-AN8

as for money looking at max 160 cnd and I am planning on over cocking. Ram I'm not to worried about types but really I don't know which one to get there all the same from what I can tell 2.5 or 2 like really does it matter that much?

For overclocking, I'd see if you can find some OCZ sticks. Mine run at 228mhz @ 2.5-3-3-6 (you should be able to find 'em for your price, IIRC).

go gskill, it uses tccd chips, has a good warranty, cheaper than ocz, sometimes has faster timings than ocz (for the price range anyway).

COMPARISON:
gskill 2x1gb ddr500 $253.00
Cas Latency: 3
Heat Spreader: Yes
Manufacturer Warranty: Lifetime
Timing: 3-4-4-8
Voltage: 2.6V-2.8V

OCZ-2x1gb ddr500 $324.77
Cas Latency: 3
Heat Spreader: Yes
Manufacturer Warranty: Lifetime
Timing: 3-4-4-8
Voltage: 2.8V
