Nope. I don't know how much difference a hardware decoder will make. I had a hardware decoder that came with my creative PCDVD drive. Had constant freeze up during playback. Now play with WinDVD, no prob. I've noticed that PC DVD drives can be little more sensitive with scratched media than stanalone player. Now I use an $75.00 Apex player with my cheap a** 6 year old TV and copy DVDs/or watch the unwatchables
from PCDVD.
As long as you have fast enough processor and RAM and decent graphics card w/16MB or more RAM, software DVD play should be fine.
