Nope. I don't know how much difference a hardware decoder will make. I had a hardware decoder that came with my creative PCDVD drive. Had constant freeze up during playback. Now play with WinDVD, no prob. I've noticed that PC DVD drives can be little more sensitive with scratched media than stanalone player. Now I use an $75.00 Apex player with my cheap a** 6 year old TV and copy DVDs/or watch the unwatchables  from PCDVD.

As long as you have fast enough processor and RAM and decent graphics card w/16MB or more RAM, software DVD play should be fine.

BTW, I'm planning on getting GF4 MX440 soon. Price watch list for $96. Maybe late this month.

Don't get the GF4 mx! TR ran a great article about it's (lack of) features and it seems to be a step backwards.

I dunno. For $96, it's like a REALLY FAST SuperDuperSoupedUpProThingyGeForce2. That's not a bad deal at all. So it won't do DX8 stuff in hardware? What do you expect for $96?

Im not a potential buyer of a gf4mx at all dont get me wrong. I was just curious to see if nvidia actually improved the dvd features or if it was just marketing.
