Watching everyone here talk about horsepower for their cars and how bad their rig is, made me think of a topic to help my posting totals .

How many gigs do you have at home and how much of that is full?

I thought of this as I calculated how much HD space is in my home and realizing that you can't buy anything smaller than a 40G HD these days, there must be tons of free space out there.

I'll get it started, in my house there is:

470G of total space
260G used

Next?

In comparison I'm small-time! 110GB available, ~70GB used.

That's an interesting question.
The Duron system that I'm typing this on has 60+4+1.5=65½ GB of hard-drives and only 1½+1+1=3½ GB free.
The AthlonXP system that I just upgraded in November (including re-partioning the 2x40GB RAID) has 68½ of 80GB free. I haven't re-installed many games on it yet.

Prepare to laugh.

I have a very old IBM Deskstar 16GP ATA 33 10.1 gig harddrive. About half of it is full, mostly with games and the bloat that is WindowsXP.

I am trying to hold out for Serial ATA but I don't think I can wait too much longer. A Barracuda IV or a Maxtor DX740 with the liquid bearings is in my near future...

Hmmm.
Box-by box breakdown:
1) 4 X 20GB in RAID 10, 10GB free (main workstation)
2) 1 X 40GB, 20GB free (LAN box)
3) 1 X 6.4GB, 3GB free (linux learner)
4) 1 X 9.1GB + 3 X 2.1GB in RAID 5, 6GB free - all fast SCSI (BDC, data backup)
5) 4 X 4.5GB in RAID 5, 10GB free - all UW SCSI (Alpha workstation: PDC, number cruncher, SQL monster)
6) 1 X 540MB, 300MB free (DOS/Win 3.1.1 putz box)
7) 1 X 4.1GB, 1GB free (laptop)

158GB total, 50GB free

As JustAnEngineer noted, it is an interesting question. I just noticed when I bought new HDs for my 2 new systems. All I need for those systems was about 5~6G but like I said, you can't get anything smaller than a 40.
I have a client site that only needs about 4G per station, but the stations have 40G drives. Talk about overkill

In one machine about 200GB total, only 400MB free . Just got a 120GB for another machine, so I'm hoping to offload some of the lesser used stuff.

Man, I feel sorry for you . I installed Win2K on a computer with the 16GB version of that drive and just booting up was painful. You could get just about any modern drive and it will be faster than that one.

Sheesh, what do you people need all this space for? I have 13 gigs of space, and always keep my usage so I have 1 gig free. If I need to install anything else, I uninstall something I'm not using. It helps keep my HD clean so I can find what I want without searching for it

160GB total. Around 85GB free.

It may seem like a lot, but it's not when it comes to a Digital Camcorder and loading full 30 minute movies on your hard drive.

Hey, don't feel sorry for Vrock, feel sorry for me!

I have a Western Digital Caviar ATA 33 (At least that's what I'm guessing, the startup says WDC, and I know the max my mobo does is ATA 33) and I have all of 6.4 Gb space, and of that about 500 meg is free...

Win ME is seriously pissing me off with it's low hard disk warnings ,

Intelmole there has got to be a way to make me not annoy you. In XP you can set where it starts to bug you... but its been a while since I've run me

I have:
20G with 1gig free
30G with 2.6gigs free

so 50gig with 3.6G free

Believe it or not, my space goes to 2 things mostly. My MP3 collection, up around 25G and the massive amounts of anime I've taped off the air using my AIW. Tivo? I don't need no stinking TiVo . That accounts for about 160G by itself. Dragon Ball & DBZ being the big killers.

Add the BookPC, carry the RAID, divide by the square root of laptop, to the power of woman's machine:

346GB of active drives, roughly 5GB free TOTAL. The RAID is due to move from WD400BB 40GB drives to WD1200BB or WD1200JB drives soon, though, which will tack another 320GB onto my total.

So much pr0n and... productivity demos, so little disk space.

Just got myself an WD 80gb disc to add to my 45 gb IBM. Enables me to install linux again, where i can use this huge FAT32 partition full of mp3 and divx for easy access under both windows and linux.

Actually the results are pretty good. About what you'd get with taping a show on a VCR.
