Last night I saw her
we had beer, and talked a lot
all was going well

I did ask her out
she accepted, happily
smiles, ear to ear

then my friends came in
she seemed to like one a lot
and paid me no heed

she ignored me then
was like I didn't exist
complete turn around

I am quite confused
my ass was handed to me
I feel like a fool

Iraq is the suck
If Islam wasn't so dumb
We could all go home

My second time here
One marriage down the toilet
It has not been fun

A good friend of mine
was hit by a roadside bomb
His head was mangled

He survived the blast
After many surgeries
He still needs one more

Another old friend
I had known since high school days
Was killed in Afghanistan

He was a good man
Left behind a wife and son
For what, I wonder?

These people I see
I both hate and pity them
I am conflicted

American blood
And American treasure
Both spent in plenty

I can only hope
After all is said and done
That this was worth it

Chuck Norris is strong
With a mighty roundhouse kick
He pwns all his foes

Crop circles- Chuck's way
of telling us "Sometimes corn
Should lie the **** down"

Chuck Norris often
Donates blood to the Red Cross
Just never his own

My children refuse
To do their chores in the house
They would rather play.

My wife is now mad.
If they don't do work, she will
Roundhouse kick some butts!

Actually, it depends on what school of haiku you subscribe too. Too be honest, not much in the thread is really haiku, no matter the fact that they follow the 5 7 5 stances. They are certainly not the only thing that make up a haiku, other general rules are that there should be at least one contrasting thing or contradiction in a haiku, and other parts say that there should be some form av feeling or a season in them. Another school subscribes to the thought of free forming lines, as long as the haiku-"moment" is present, that is, a clear thought or realisation which is embodied in the poem.

Personally, i usually go by having something meaningfull and usually try to add a contradiction or contrast and some form of twist on it, but if 5 7 5 doesnt fit, thats the least of the evils to break.

IMHO, people that only go by the 5 7 5 and nothing else could actually just stop calling it haiku. But thats my opinion.

Also, check post 5 and 6 on the first page of the thread.

then whats the point of this stupid 10+ page thread if we're not following the 5-7-5 haiku rule?

If you must comment
be clever and use haiku
not regular text

Popular haiku?
of nature, of life; profound
and a set rhyme scheme

but for this here thread
meter is most that matters
for us to speak out

sully not this thread
with waste: common verbiage;
use proper style

Penguin Upgrade

my penguins sit still
perched atop my computer
as they pray for change

companions they have
plastic sealed pals lay unknown
removed from the world

goofy birthday gift
one most highly desired
object of bird prayer

there is room for all
rookery like none other
prosperous penguins

they are joyful now
perched atop my computer
praising their Tux god
