Worth scavenging a Matrox card?

Mon Mar 10, 2003 7:21 pm

S'for...my grandmother :)

Seriously, she's got this huge monitor (21" or something), and she can't see too well any more. Worth me trying to get a G400 or something? The local computer shops don't really appreciate Matrox's qualities, so I might be able to get it reasonably cheap. Would she notice a difference running at 1280x1024, or whatever the res. is? (Something like that...). Oh, the PC currently has a card by...lemme see...hmm, Trident. 9750, I think the model number is.

you could find a g200 for next to nothing, though a g400 is kinda random as far as price
Your bargaining posture is highly dubious.

Go with a new G550....around 100.00 from places like newegg.com.

Edit:

Just checked. Newegg has OEM G550s for 95 bucks and G450 for 84. Either will drive that big screen beautifully.

Or she can get a tnt 2 or a voodoo 3 since no games are needed to run. Not too bad i guess. :)

Man Matrox cards are great and I love my G400 but why the hell is a G550 still 100 bucks?

See http://www.tech-report.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5785 . That is why Matrox is overpriced.
