I'm preparing to start cutting holes in my case, and was wondering what bits anyone experienced with this sort of thing might recommend.

In general, a .22 makes smaller holes than a .45 :grin:

I've got access to a .30 cal M1 Carbine, do you think that'll make for a nice balance between the two?

Yeah. Make sure to use a jacketed round, or the hole might be irregular.

The 1&1/2" cutoff wheels work well, but are slow. I suggest using a pair of tin snips or a sheet metal nibbler to cut the hole, then using the cutoff wheels to enlarge it slightly; this will give the polished look of the dremel, but be quicker.
Note: the cutoff wheels have a short lifespan when used for case mods. Get a 10-pack of the things or more, you may need them.

10 pack if your usin the reinforced cut off wheels. In my experience of cutting a window mod, 4 fan holes. I used like 30 cut off wheels. Just buy reinforced if u must use a dremel. They cost more but are worth it, having to put on a new wheel every 2 mins gets very annoying.
