and thats just the issue... availability and convenience!

we live in america, and thats whats so hard about cutting out fast foods,
soda pops, potato chips (doritos), and candy bars!

I think JBI's doc kinda put a bit of fear into his eating/drinking lifestyle. Sucks to be sure..but he will feel better for it in the long run.

That would partially defeat the purpose. I'd much rather save my "empty carbs points" for beer.

If you make it with lowfat milk (instead of water), it's actually not bad. Maybe I'll try throwing some raisins in it.

I'm also cutting down on the diet cola; I've been drinking an insane amount of the stuff for a number of years now. I actually like unsweetened iced tea, which is much better for you; I've just have been too lazy to make some to bring to work. So yesterday I made up a big batch of iced tea and brought it to work in a 2L bottle. That'll probably hold me for most of the day.

$66.51 a fifth... thats not a cheap single malt scotch is it?

although there are hundreds more single malt scotches that are well beyond that price.

Scotch prices have gone through the roof lately. That magical bottle of 18yo Mac will now cost $100, and it's really not that good! For the price, I really like Bowmore Legend.

Currently drinking New Belgium Abbey. Whoooey! It's a good batch.

Well I'm off to go get me some holiday spirits. Last time I was at the store they had a wall of different kinds of beers in special holiday boxes that had 2 or 3 (sometimes 4) different kinds of beer form the brewer and a glass. I'm gonna go see what they have and try something different this season. I remember they had a box with some Monk style brew, 1 of the beers was a dopplebock I think. I might give that one a try.

I'll post what my decision is.

Is it just me, or are Christmas beers packed with alcohol? So far I've tried three or four xmas brews (including a $21 bottle, which tasted great... think it had a nutmeg flavor), and all of them had much more of an alcoholic taste than your standard beer does. I suppose it makes you merrier, so all's well :)

Here's a reminder to everyone to try Harpoon Winter Warmer if you havne't already -- cinnamon beer rules for the holidays.

what i really really want to try this year is this:

NAVAN

at $45+ USD for a fifth of this (i think), its madagascar vanilla infused
cognac.. omfg it sounds so yummy... i've seen it in a party store and
practically drooled over it.. but a simple poor man like me who lives
from paycheck to paycheck cant afford luxuries such as this. :(

Well crap........they're all sold out of all the holiday packages.

So I just picked up a mixed bag of Leffe Brown, Bellevue Kriek Cherry, and Harp.

Oh well, at least I got something to drink.

Nope, it's not just you. They seem to start at around standard strength, and go up from there. If I had to guess, I'd say most are around 7%; a few are even stronger. The legendary Samichlaus lager (which is back in production at a new brewery after being discontinued for a few years) is a whopping 14%.

Strong Christmas beers are sometimes referred to as "winter warmers".

um, and just what is wrong with dr pepper? its godly...

If by "godly" you mean, "not fit to clean horsecrap off my car tires" then I agree 100%. Dr. Pepper is one of the worst tasting substances ever made.

ATM, I'm drinking some of the lamest, weakest coffee known to man.

Just a FYI for idchafee... Dr. Pepper released a NEW FLAVOR today!

So right now I'm drinking it, and that new flavor is: Berries & Cream

Yum! :)

Yeah, stopped at the gas station on Big Beaver & John R today, and noticed an ODD purple-colored Dr. Pepper bottle.

So you know I was all over that. And it reminded me of idachafee and this thread! :)

A nice pint of Grolsch. Brewed in the UK unfortunately but tolerable.

My son is 7 today so he's been out with his mum and 3 friends all day and I met them for something to eat after work at 6.00 pm GMT. Had a nice couple of Heineken's, brewed in Holland, very drinkable. :D

Yuengling Lager. The store next to my hotel here in Arlington, VA doesn't stock Labatt Blue in amounts that create the desired economies of scale.

Currently having a Three Floyds Robert The Bruce Ale.

I was just in the DC area this past week. Check out Capitol City Brewery in downtown DC; I had dinner there 2 of the nights I was there, and they had some decent beers. The Pale Rider Ale and Prohibition Porter were decent, and the Fuel Imperial Stout was just the thing if you're looking for something to make sure you sleep well tonight.

Homebrewed Irish Stout
Homebrewed Honey Wheat
Flying Dog Scottish Porter
Spaten Optimator

I'll have some homebrewed Irish Red to drink soon, and I'm brewing my first batch of mead this weekend. The homebrew life is good!
