You may or may not have noticed that the word filter is acting a little differently. It's been changed to just "star" out the various combinations of everyone's favorite four letter words, rather then replace a single character. I've gotten tired of adding words to the filter and hopefully this will work out better.

As always, attempting to come up with ways to work around the word filter will be viewed with great disfavor. I'd say that the two words that you should avoid the most would be obvious, but since there's always at least one slow and snarky gerbil around, I'm talking about f*** and s***.

Please use this thread to point out words that are unintentionally captured by the filter or other comments you may have.

well, your **** piece of **** filter seems to be working.

edit: it changes anything ending in ing to four stars, making it harder to get the idea of what you're saying.

While I at first thought that this was a drawback, now I'm wondering if the lack of clarity and meaning is actually more useful then to make my work easier.

If it stars it out, yes. Unless it is caught in the cross fire of the filter unintentionally. But your example doesn't qualify.

It's only in the filter because it used to be the modified word. I'm sure if people need help with the *nix command, they'll figure out how to type it.

Oh, interesting. Now when you quote someone, you don't see what they wrote...so it's apparently stored as "****" instead of the original word.

I think it's always done that. Before, however, it was easy to understand what was intended since only one letter was changed. Now it's all up in the air.

So is there a way for each individual user to choose whether they want to see the "profanity" or have it filtered? I didn't see an option in the Profile settings.

EDIT: hides the bolding too. Wow. But if I edit my own post I see my original profanity.

You are doing a horrible job. Seriously. I said "attempting to come up with ways to work around the word filter will be viewed with great disfavor". You need to work on your reading comprehension.

And in case no one has been bright enough to figure it out, you can use the "Preview" feature to see if stuff gets filtered. You don't have to submit it. Pretty amazing, huh?

If anyone just has an insatiable itch to "help" with the filter, then PM me. Or get that rash looked at.

Actually, I wanted to use the 'unmentionable' word, but I knew it would get the axe, so I revised my prose.

And I don't see anything wrong with 'fricking'. Just like using 'crap' instead of '****', and 'bitch' instead of '****', it's just a less vulgar way to get your vulgar thoughts across.
