CRTs are still quite prevalent and offer contrast and resolution flexibility that LCDs do not. Period. If you value space and power consumption more than image quality, then by all means, get an LCD. Otherwise, a CRT is the better choice for pretty much anyone.

For a sizeable portion of the population the flicker in CRT is just too bad for their eyes. And within that portion there are those who can't really tell the difference.
It does vary from person to person. However, either because of the dwindling supply of CRTs or there are indeed more people being indifferent, LCD seems to be accepted more these days. The upcoming higher contrast ones and LED backlight models will be the next tech wave to come. I'm waiting for SEDs myself but these couple of enhancements for LCD panels may still prove useful after all.

Dell might use others, too, but Philips and Samsung are the dominant suppliers. Samsung, of course, only uses its own panels in its retail products.Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but, I think the Dell displays use Samsung LCD pannels.
