In two years, what will your education level be? In may of 2008 I should have a BAEM degree.

I am assuming for the last option that you meant swiss as in Gruyere and not as in Zurich?
In either case, I hope to have a BS in Cognitive Science (in 2 ).

It takes three years to complete a BA. Four or more years if your looking to do Law etc.

I have no idea, for these purposes what a J.D. or LLM would be. A JD is a three year degree (90+ credit hours), but no dissertaion at the end. In my mind that puts it above the Masters, but not quite the Ph.D An LLM is kind of like a Masters degree, but higher than the J.D. and far more focussed on a particular area of law.

Putting the two together, I'll put myself down for Ph.D.

3/5 years is common in most places, its only really the USA that I've seen 2/4 standard.

In two years, I hope to have finally had the money/time to finish the last three classes that I need for my bachelors degree.

In 2 years it will have been 24 years since the poor deluded registrar of Colgate University somehow thought I was worthy of a BA in Economics. I've learned more that's applicable to the real world in those 24 years than I ever could have crammed into the 3 functioning brain cells I possessed while attending college.

My unsolicited (and worth exactly what you paid for it) advice is this: Unless you've burned to be a doctor, lawyer, scientist, vet, or some other profession/specialty that requires specific advanced degrees since you were 2, go to college, get a BA in Econ or Poli Sci or some other mainstream major, and spend your time at college building the personal networks that will be your key to job success in your future. Avoid at all costs the temptation to lock into a "future" at the tender age of 18, especially a future that does not require advanced degrees. Chances are, by the time you're 30 (hell, even 25), your carefully laid plan for the future will have been shot down by the cold truth of reality.

Excluding those who know their lives will be lived in the hard sciences, I believe that college is not about acquiring knowledge. Instead, college is all about learning how to acquire and digest knowledge, combined with a healthy dose of learning how to live with other young adults without going postal.

I remember precious little of my Economics studies beyond the guiding principle of microeconomics: Price = Marginal Cost. The people I met, the friends I made, the processes I needed to follow to produce 35 page research papers, learning how to coexist with the boorish roommate who would boff his girlfriend with me in the room? These are the lessons and experiences that truly constituted my college education.

MSE right now, and finishing the MBA soon.

BTW Ned, Profit is maximized when you set your price such that MR=MC.
I think you're referring to perfect competition, where your supply curve is determined by marginal cost. I.e. you are willing to supply in the short run as long as the price covers your variable costs. In the long run, you will exit if you can't cover your average costs.

Cheers

At the rate I'm drinking I'll probably be down to a 4th grade education in two years. Right now I have a BS in engineering.

I'm hoping to be done with my PhD (in Computer Science) in 2 years... all I have left is to propose and defend -- it sounds so simple, but easier said than done, though!

The average completion time for all students starting the CS PhD program here is 6.125 years, but there is a high variance there. I see a few students who've been here for more than 10 years and I definitely don't want to turn out like that.

Finished one Ph.D. and hopefully part way through another. A large part of the first one can apply to the second. Just need to re-factor the research and write another thesis.

No degrees, barely finished high school. In two years I'll have been retired from big blue for a full year, hopefully still employed by Ricoh though!

I have 3 BA's, in Math, Stat and Computer Science. Scary, isn't it? I don't understand why they're BA's and not BS's but thats not a big deal. I may have an MS in Information Systems (whatever that means). Already 40% done. Need to get my head straight before I can make that happen though.

Well, Mathematics-related curricula are taught through the Liberal Arts college at many Unis, hence they are BA degrees. With CS, it depends. If it's under the Mathematics department, it'll likely be a BA. If it's under the Engineering department, it'll be a BS.

Where I went, you actually had a choice of BA in Computer Science, BS in Computer Science, or BS in Computer Engineering. (BA-CS was almost pure software, BS-CS was fairly evenly split hardware/software, and BS-CE emphasized hardware.)

A friend of mine switched from biology to art. All of the science credits he got qualified him for a BS. So he ended up with a BS in art. :o

My college only hands out BSes, but you can do an "off-campus major" at some nearby (by nearby I mean across the street) schools. I know one girl who decided she couldn't get through the engineering curriculum, so when she graduates she's going to have a Bachelors of Science in Dance.
Not that she won't have earned it, she's minoring in engineering and already has 4 semesters of math and 2 of chem and 3 of physics and a couple labs in each physical science.
