I've always just used the irfanview viewer that has EXIF reading ability, then I found that firefox plugin that I linked earlier and it's even better.

No, I think the pic is from the 2004 transit of Venus. Googling "Baader Filter" (in the post's subject field) tells me that they're used in solar observations, and that sure looks like the Sun.
