Hi guys...

I've WinXP installed so it would be nice if I could read at least (I know there are some issues with writing to NTFS under Linux) my files in the NTFS partition..

I've already tryed

mount /dev/sda1 /mountpoint
mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mountpoint

and in both cases I get a message saying NTFS is not supported by the Kernel...

I know Linux can read NTFS partitions... but how??

Thanks guys!

NTFS support needs to be compiled into the kernel or loaded as a module before you can mount the FS. If you're using the default kernel with your RedHat install try typing "modprobe ntfs" before mounting the filesystem. If that works you'll need to modify your startup scripts to make it permanent.

I get a "can't find NTFS module" or something like that...

I'll check RedHat site for docs... =(

Thanks for you help!

Just so you know "ntfs" needs to be lowercase. Linux is funny that way .

As root, run `insmod ntfs' and then use lsmod to see if it loaded. If it works, edit your /etc/modules file and add a line like this:

ntfs
You are false data.

If that doesn't work you can always
make xconfig
I think, and just recompile your kernel with ntfs support....

You can try the stuff from this.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-ntfs/

Get the v1.6.0 version for kernel-stable versions (linux-2.4)

Not sure if Redhat has their own rpms via redhat-network for it.
