Any experience with Eano "Mini" machines?

Tue Jun 05, 2007 7:57 pm

Just ran across these the other day and wondered if anybody has seen / used these Eano "mini"-like boxes. They're not cheap, and I'm not wild about that white patch on the front (which I thought was the optical drive door until I enlarged the pic and realized they use a slot load so it's just the bezel -- but maybe you can slip your own image in there). But they've got that mini form-factor. I'm just wondering if they have overheating or other issues.

looks kinda sexy!

however, no visible fannage means it probably has one of those slot-style laptop fans in it; some of the pics on newegg show ventilation for said fans.

also, what's up w/ the built-in coax above the ethernet? either it's the port for a wireless antenna, or it's something for a antenna/cable connection. i'm thinking the latter, since there's a little TV icon next to it?

finally, i think the Optiplex 745 USFF can be specced cheaper w/ a 3-year warranty.

If it has a built-in tuner, then that being the antenna hook-up would make sense.

Going to the manufacturer's website helps explain things a bit, but still a little hazy. It has a built in tuner. Why the don't list the coax connector under ports is beyond me.

sounds like it's intended to be an appleTV competitor, then (amongst other things).

Think more of a competitor to the Mac Mini.

except the mac mini is being phased out, it seems, now that the AppleTV is here. at least, i don't think i've seen a refresh of it for the last two hardware bumps the other systems have had. also, i don't think the mac mini EVER had a TV Tuner.
