The system guide image is missing.

Image

Vista x86, Opera 9.22, IE 7, Picture taken from IE7, in Opera it links to http://trweb2.techreport.com/NotFound

EDIT: Found this browsing the breadbox (http://trweb2.techreport.com/breadbox.x) in Opera. The indent never recovers after that in the page.

Image

Happens very slightly in IE as well, but its very pronounced in Opera.

Noted. Easy fix we'll apply after we do the "final" data import before going live.

Guys:

I posted this on the new site in a comments thread, but it probably bears repeating here:

The feature box will rotate various interesting bits through. It's not written yet, but we'll apply some logic to show you the oldest thing you haven't yet seen in the rotation first, which will generally be our last big review. Then you'll get newer news stories of note after that. One way we'll keep the site fresh is working this box like mad.

This feature is working on a simple rotation basis now. Reload the front page a few times by clicking the TR logo and you'll see it in action.

That explains it.

Hrm, this is just me thinking out loud, but it would be very awesome if comments were actually a forum thread, so if I commented on an article it would really just be an alias for a forums thread, not sure if its possible, or worth it though.

Perhaps we could have a separate forum for discussing front page news? Like Bit tech does..

Looks like there was just a missing </ol> tag in the August 5 entry. Fixed now.

That works too, its just that I notice a lot of the time there is a long discussion on the front page about something, and then we have a rehash of the same thing in the forums.

I also don't see the indent thing at all in Firefox.

Dang, that was quick. :o Indent thingie above solved. :D

Found another minor thing. Under shortbread comments, the tag 'Shortbread' is listed twice.

Image

EDIT: Upon further inspection, it seems only the August 5 shortbread page, with the comments expanded, displays like this. :-?

We believe the duplicate tags showing are a caching issue. It's on our list. Thanks.

It's part of our plans, but still a little ways off.

The great thing is, Steve wrote all of the new tools, so we can add features much, MUCH more easily than before. We have a whole roadmap now. Like Intel or AMD, but with shorter product cycles. ;)

Two things:

1) Is the top left corner of the page, where the big picture is, supposed to change every time I refresh the page?

It goes from being a link to a article, to randomly choosing one of the top few news items. I am not liking that. The first time I played with the page a few days ago, I thought the top left corner would always be the most current article, with the other "featured articles" below it, on the left third of the page.

I then thought that the middle third would be Top news stories, TR's system guide, Top discussion topics, Shacknews, etc...

Lastly, I thought the right third would be various adds and the price guide.

I just don't want to load the page, and see a news items in the top left corner, and miss that a new review was put up because I hit the wrong spot in the rotation. Do I make any sense? :)

This may have been discussed already, and that leads me to my second point.

2) Can we maybe have you edit the first post, and indicate what topics and questions have already been asked and addressed? If the above is already be addressed, then I am don't want to waste anyones time with my post.
Also, others will know it has been addressed as well. Probably just a lot of copy and paste work from the other parts of the thread.
Just a thought.

All the staff mailto's are getting an extra space added in front of them in the articles.

On another subject, I notice that there are a few missing blog authors, namely Kevin, Dr Evil, and Steve Lautenschlager. Is this intentional?

Those blogs were all abandoned for months after a single post. That was not our intention, but removing them from the list was. We'll add 'em back if one of those guys decides to start posting.

That is what is funny.........bugs are fixed quickly and changes are made super fast.

I went to lunch and then that big picture started switching randomly and I thought cool, I found a bug. :)

These guys are quick.

However, If I refresh after going to get something to drink and end up at THG, I'm kicking someones ass. :x

Not in Opera 9.22. I checked, and it is, however, working properly in IE7.

The collapse button on article/news comments disappears after clicking one of the sub-replys (I guess thats a name for them). Im on windows XP using firefox 2.0.0.6, but it also worked (right word?) in Internet Explorer 7.

Also, speaking of the collapse button, it seems a bit odd that it had a plus and minus, but only collapses, since you have to click "Collapsed" to restore it. I guess it would make sense for the icon to remain there and click it again to restore it.

EDIT: :o fixed while I was writing this...now I'm paranoid.

That looks to be caused by this problem with opera: http://archivist.incutio.com/viewlist/css-discuss/26443

EDIT: In other words(I think), just give add the line:

#archivenav:{width: 485px;}

and you should be good, I think!

I won't post a screen shot to this one.

http://trweb2.techreport.com/discussions.x/13073

The 'related articles' sidebar shows the current artice in it's list as well (I.E. the article is related to itself).

I assume this shouldn't be so.

EDIT: Also, I figure I'll throw this one in as well: When you do a search for nothing (I.E. just hitting the button without typing anything in), using the main nav bar's google thingie, you get a totally empty page, instead of some sort of 'hey, you forgot to put in a search term' page.
