Ok I am really getting sick and tired of people posting one liner replies and topics to increase there post count. I used to like being in the race for top spot but I have now realized that I would rather have quality over quantity. People joining near the end of february and already bein in top 10?!? thats ridiculous (some people may know who iam speakin of) I for one am now officially ending this BS and not posting unless I have something legitimate and worthwhile. O yeah and if you have a simple question to be answered how about you search forums to make sure it hasnt already been answered and then maybe stop by irc.openprojects.net #techreport. There r always people there to help you with your questions. Alright I am done ranting if you's have got a problem w/this come to me! flame away you random BS posting forum leading posers!.
P.S. Forge deserves his #1 spot IMO.

I have to say I have come to agree with you RandomNull. I was racing my way to the top when I realized that basically I was wasting my time and everyone elses and not really bringing anything of interest to the forum. I stopped as I watched the afore mentioned individual fly past me.

I agree that Forge deserves to have his top stop. He always has interesting things to bring to the table as well as plenty of experience.

Why does the forum keep track of how many posts made? A large ammount of posts I've seen are about # of posts. Why doesn't the forum be rid of them then the ammount of crap will be halved. Do they have a real purpose?

One theory behind it is that those members who are active in the forums and have high post counts are a wealth of information and are thought to generally know what they are talking about. Obviously you can't blindly trust that notion, but thats the idea.

As far as boosting post counts go, I'm guilty of doing it on occasion just like the rest of us. However, I tried to confine myself to some of the goof-ball threads in the back porch. In the rest of the forums I'd rather post usefull stuff.

Unfortunately there is no solution. If it comes down to the point where noise overrides the usefull information, then I agree, drop the forum ranks.

Just imagine the horror that would be my post count if we hadn't started the IRC channel... Most of my count was from the first 2-3 days, before we got onto IRC.

I agree with the rest of you on the fact that some posts are just blatant attempts to get the post count up, but in the back porch we talk about stuff that is non-computer related therefore irrelevant.

So in a way, the stuff said on Back Porch is ALWAYS relevant if it's got nothing to do with M$, Wintel, AMD, VIA, ATI, Nvidia, Epson, Dell and (insert many billion computer manufacturers)...

However, I am guilt as charged of upping my post count sometimes...

Okay, make that a lot of the time

And Forge is an emporium of knowledge, cute title btw

Yet another guilty party here, but I agree with everything you said IntelMole. And I do try to post at least *some* useful info on here.

I'm going to spring to 0oALio0's defence here... who remembers Budha's "contributions"?

http://www.tech-report.com/forums/viewt ... 7&forum=12 if you don't... even though we turned that into a reasonable thread  go TR!

Oh and my disliking of him comes from his attempted ridicule of me on my own post...
http://www.tech-report.com/forums/viewt ... 4&forum=12

Whereas, we see that 0oALio0 hasn't posted much of this. Indeed the most irrelevant post I've seen of his generated 4 pages and got you all hot under the collar about being racist, sexist and childish

Keep up the good behaviour 0oALio0 ,

Yeah, it's only a forum and not important. But every single time we post here, we do incur a cost for the owner(s) and put traffic on the net, etc. I don't care too much about the latter, but a little self-control keeps things the way I think we'd all prefer they stay.
