What do you do for a living?

Fri Jun 06, 2003 12:32 am

I'm a welder/fabricator mainly stainless steel.. It's a real fun job, we're doing over 11 hours a day, 6 days a week now. We have a laser cutter at work, which is great if you want something done on the cheap :D

They changed our hours, we're starting at 5am now. It's really killing me :-?

Well, that explains how you spend so much time here. I do have a job to go to in the morning, but hey who cares about sleep anyway.

Currently I'm a desktop support manager for a small insurance company. This is an AWESOME job, as I get to work on PC's all day, order and research new equipment, plus I get management experience and good pay on top of it all... :D

I also used to be a reviewer/moderator/newshound for AthlonXP.com, but left there because of some hassles. Now I just enjoy reading and posting in these forums and co-moderating the General Hardware forum for my clan website. Who knows, one of these days I might even get off my butt and try doing reviews again 8)

Gee, and here I am just a lowly network engineer. I just build datacenters and networks for a living. Nothing exciting, right now I'm just getting started on a school here in michigan nothing big 32 new servers, 8 terabyte EMC SAN. I got to have all setup buy August 1st.

Nothing exciting like working in a bowling alley or cool things like that. :D

The way I look at, at least I don't have to worry about the 6000+ PCs that need to be redone. :o Oh, yeah by August 1st too. Heh that is for some other poor sclub to worry about. :D

I'm a Computer Trainer for the local community college - I teach workers how to use Windows, Word, Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, Lotus Notes, etc.. Great job! Just started doing some training over the web using Sametime. Free software training whenever I need it, too, and best of all---lots of days off. :D :D

Uh, no actually. 3500 Macs (shudder) are getting imaged. The PC are getting scripted to remove the novell software and add them to my domain. The school does not want them imaged. :o

You hiring down there? hehe, no seriously.

Anyhow I am a Sr. Design Engineer for a bitty company called Ramsey Electronics, Inc. On to 12 years now. Paid like crap, but had lots of fun before the place was sold to investors. Now it is like any other boring company. It was also my hobby before work at it tore the life out of it. Since I am the only engineer on many projects and test equipment (I don't do the mechanical stuff), I have to do both the hardware and software designs. It's fun but quite challenging. I have project meetings at 2:00AM in my head when I am trying to sleep. My resume looks like a nightmare of impossible to know all this stuff...

Now my hobby is gardening and biking because I don't have to think about electronics when I am planting trees. Only 9 to 10 hour days 5 days a week, corresponding pay.

Now THAT is scary! :o

The last time I had anything to do with a scripted upgrade it screwed tons of stuff up. On the other hand, the last time we made images for every dept. and then deployed those, it went like clockwork. Ah well, people need to learn the hard way...

I am currently a factory grunt.

I work on progressive punch presses that produce rotors and stators for various customers like Ford and Black & Decker.

I am still looking into getting my A+ certification and also taking some IT courses, because working shifts is killing me, and I'm bored out of my skull from putting steel in a box for 12 hours a day. (BOOOORING)

Need.........mental.........stimulation...........soon!! :o

pete_roth:

What kind of pinsetters do you have?? Brunswick of AMF?? I got my A-2 licence about 10 years ago. Still got all the manuals and stuff.
For those that fought for it, freedom has a taste that the protected will never know.
