Well I'm in the market for a new graphics card and was wondering what the difference was between the RadeonLE and the Radeon besides the fact that the LE doesn't have a DVI port is there any performance differences? Any actual testing been done on the two. I noticed that at Best Buy the 128MB Radeon 8500 is 300 and the 128MB Radeon 8500LE and 64MB Radeon 8500 are both 200 so which would be the best buy? I'm also wondering about a Geforce3 Ti500 but I'd still like to know the Radeon differences.

the 128 LE is better, but STAY AWAY....get a nvidia card and be happy, until ati proves they can make good drivers "all" the time i dont think they are worth that kinda money......

but I'm still interested in the thoughts of any about weather to get the Radeon 8500LE or shell out 100 more for the 8500?

But I've heard that ATI has been releasing new drivers that work alright now. I've got a KR7A-RAID w/ Athlon 1800XP so are there any specific problems with that conflicting wtih either card?

I agree with Damage.

The 8500LEs can overclock to 8500 levels pretty easily (it's only 25mhz core/mem) and are good performers at stock anyway. The extra memory helps with antialiasing as well (do they make 128mb non-LE models?).

Save the $100, get an LE, enjoy an awesome card.

A somewhat outdated bias Nelliesboo. ATI seems to have its drivers working exceptionally well now. For example the last driver upgrade upped 3dMark scores by 10-40% (info found at Rage3d.com)

Nelliesboo, that is a very outdated bias... did you not know that Nvidia are the new driver problem people with their 23.11 drivers? :grin:

alright thanks everyone I'm gonna go with the 8500LE based on the price and the little differences. I dont think that it justifies charging $100 more just for the DVI and 25MHz. It seems like a good performance to price ratio. I'll be looking forward to the review on the 8500LE vs 8500 and maybe a few geforce cards thrown in for good measure.

You should like it. The 8500LE HardOCP tested went up to 300mhz clock/mem (25mhz higher than the retail 8500) with the stock fan and no memory heatsinks. That article is currently linked from their frontpage by the way.

I got my 8500 for 150.00 online, it's worth it. With the latest drivers from ATI, can't for the life of me remember the version however, things have improved greatly. This is a damn fine card, good speeds, and no problems for me. The 8500 LE should do just as well.

Not sure where you're looking to find those prices but the LE is running at $199 on average. The regular 8500 with 64 MB can be found online for around $150-175. Also check E-bay. I got mine for $160.

If you can save $25-50 I'd go with the regular 8500.
