Ok, here's my unofficial knowledge of how TV over IP works...
Mpeg 2 encoding can range in scope from 4 MBps to 10 uncompressed. Don't ask me what that is uncompressed, but a bit of general knowledge here and there (a 17GB double sided double layered DVD can hold about 8 hrs Mpeg2) tells me it's about 600KB/s compressed [(17*1024)/(8*60*60)]... so we need a system that can transmit that much data...
Enter things like VDSL (Very Fast Digital subscriber line) that can do 5MBps easy. Then you send the data for a TV program over the fone line (well, data line) and the TV is your new antique
