What RAM to buy

Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:02 am

I am running an AMD 5200+ with some Kingston RAm that won't OC. I knew this when I bought it. Now I want to get some RAM that will allow me to OC a little, while using the stock AMD CPU cooler. (I really like how quiet this box is.) WHat RAM (best bang for $$) will let me do this? Thanks.

Get these Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz. They are some of the best rams out there and are highly overclockable. I know there is a rebate, but crucial is a very good with rebates (I got mine within 2 months). Also you should can sign up for google checkout and get $10 off your order bringing the total to $40 shipped (info from slickdeals).

I've been a GSkill fan since my AthlonXP build and haven't looked back ever since. They have a lifetime warranty that they actually do honor (been there).

I looked at the specs on my MB. I can't determine if it runs 2.2v or 1.8. Where do I check this?

Looked at the BIOS of my MB, and it shows 1.93v. What sets this?

Can't find the rebate on the Crucial. Did I miss it?

That RAM is down to $59 for 2 gigs. May have to do that one.

Just so you know, RAM speeds beyond 800 will help with synthetic tests but it's not going to result in anything noticeable in any applications.

I'd recommend spending $130 on a Black Edition before spending money on overclocking RAM.
