NFL Trivia challenge - WITH PRIZE!

Thu Nov 29, 2007 6:37 pm

OK, I just heard a fascinating bit of trivia and I think I'll make it a contest. Up for the prize is an 8G flash drive that I don't need anymore (I got a 16G). 1st 5 people to PM me the correct answer to the following question will have their name entered into the drawing to win this thing. Here goes:

Name the punter who has the most career punts in NFL history.

Send me those PM's!

My first (instant) guess was number 2. I cheated and looked it up to see if I was right so I won't PM you.

I PMd #2, then looked it up to see I was wrong.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

I never said you couldn't look it up, although I admire the efforts to try without looking it up

For some strange reason this guy's name always stuck in my head, so I knew without cheating.

My favorite is "Who caught Brett Favre's first completed pass". He's still a starter in the NFL and has not caught a pass since.

I knew it (of course). IIRC he even got a couple yards out of the catch

Punter Sean Landeta, the last remaining NFL player who put on a USFL uniform, officially retired Thursday.

And he did it on the 25th anniversary of the first USFL game.

Landeta, now 46 years old, played on two Super Bowl championship teams with the New York Giants (1986 and 1990) but hasn't played in an NFL regular season game since 2005 with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants signed him as a backup for Jeff Feagles for the 2006 season, but he never played in a game.

Landeta was a member of the Philadelphia Stars for the inaugural USFL season, which officially kicked off on March 6, 1983. He played two seasons for the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars before leaving for the NFL.

He came to the Giants in 1985. In his NFL career, he also played for St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Green Bay and Philadelphia.

Landeta punted for more than 60,000 yards in his career, averaging 43.3 yards per punt. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection.
