mobo question

ECS GeForce6100SM-M (1.0) AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100S Micro ATX AMD Motherboard. Looking to build a complete system for around 600.00. Is this a good mobo to start with? and can I expand later....add a nice Graphics card later....ect?

You can add a PCIe graphics card to that motherboard.

I would probably suggest a motherboard using the AMD 690G chipset with DVI and/or HDMI digital output if you plan on using the integrated graphics. Take a look at some of these, for example. If you would prefer to stick with NVidia, take a look at these.

Is that 600 with or without monitor? What about the operating system? You can refer to the Econobox in this month's System Guide as a starting point.

If I had to pay good money for a motherboard, I'd look at the Asus M2N or M2A mATX options. Sometimes Fry's will have a combo deal where the ECS motherboard is either free or almost free with a cpu purchase. Only then would I try using an ECS board. They are cheap for a reason. The Asus boards are "corporate" standards, highly reliable with good quality components. BTW, don't skimp on the power supply.
