Will this RAM work?

Mon Dec 24, 2007 7:31 pm

Hey,
I'm not very experience with RAM and stuff, so that's why I'm asking for help here. I have a PowerEdge 400SC, and I got this from research somewhere:
Your Dell PowerEdge 400SC (800MHz FSB) supports a Maximum of 4GB of PC-3200 RAM. The standard configuration from the manufacturer for a PowerEdge 400SC (800MHz FSB) has 256MB of RAM and has 2 bank(s) of memory socket(s) for a total 4 memory socket(s). Installing the largest capacity memory module in each memory socket will provide maximum system performance.
I'm interested in this memory card, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231098), and the memory cards seems ok. Dell requires SDRAM, and that memory is DDR2 SDRAM, and it should work, but I'm not sure about the "PC-3200 RAM" part and if 800MHz can be used on a 400MHz compatible computer. It would be appreciated if could help me and give an reply. Thanks. :D If it can't I would be really depressed because it is a great deal.

I'm not familiar with the Dell you say you have, but if says it requires PC-3200 (a DDR part), you won't be able to use a DDR2-800 stick in it...

DDR and DDR2 are not pin compatible... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... :-?

Yup..youre hosed. PC3200 is DDR...184 pin. You can still get it pretty reasonable in price..altho not near as cheap as the DDR2 spec.

Thanks, I did a little bit more research :-? and found thishttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145440, will it work, my computer is Single Channel, and this is Dual Channel, but I've heard that you can switch it or something. Can someone check this out for me and see if this is compatible? Also, it's annoying that 184 pin cards are freakishly expensive, while 2 sticks of 2gig RAM goes for 100 bucks for 240 pin cards(on Newegg at least).
