Electronics parts suppliers ?

Postposted on Wed Jan 16, 2008 4:43 pm

Do any of you do it your self-ers have any idea where I can buy a small "figure D" A/C receptacle? Here's the story:

I am clumsy. The S3 took a ~4 ft dive off the back of my HDTV and bent the power connector back into the box. When I removed the cover I was able to see that the power connector had snapped the leads to the TiVo power supply PCB.

Being in dire need of TiVo I cobbled together a power cable that is now directly soldered to the power supply... I am aware that this is "sub-optimal" on a number of levels, safety being the most obvious.

With that said, can anyone tell me if they know where to find that plastic power cable receptacle with metal leads to the PSU PCB? I have looked at a couple local places like radio shack and online, but so far have come up with nothing.

Thanks in advance.
I have nothing more to say about that.

Try Parts Express or Arcade Electronics. <shrug>

Mouser and Newark Electronic were places I order from back in the early '90s. Don't know if they are still in operation.

Digikey did not have what I needed. Or, if they do, I can not find it...
I have nothing more to say about that.

I'm completely out of my league here, but does this help?

On second thought, why not have digikey call you up?

And I had page-by-paged through Section A of the catalog looking for the damn things.

Hey, thanks to all who have posted!

LS, your links are the right idea, but it appears that the part I am looking for is not there. However, I may go with one of the smaller parts on there and just drill new holes in the sheetmetal and then attach the new inlet to the PCB with conventional wiring which will make it more "user-friendly" and safer, but won't have any relationship to what it looked like from the factory.

The other possibility is that I take a couple pictures of the item and see what you (and digikey) think of them.
I have nothing more to say about that.

Since you live in Texas, Fry's must have something for you along those lines.... I've been to Fry's once, very big. 8)

I only linked a few of the pages. Use the keywords on those pages back into their search engine, and you can narrow down your choices considerably. They have a lot of parts not listed in the catalog. Only the more popular items are in the catalog.

Yes, serious thread necro.

However, I thought that for the sake of completeness, I would post an update. The part I wanted was the receptacle for one of these "Polarized IEC-320-C7" doo-hickeys.

Does that mean you have found it, or still have not?

StefanVonS, I did find what I was looking for initially.

Naturally, it was trivially easy once I knew what the part was called. It is ridiculously hard to find something you haven't got a name for.
