Digital T.V. Tuner???

Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:55 pm

Does anyone use a T.V. tuner card in their HTPC that uses a digital cable box, or acts just like the cable box with the channel selections?

Being able to do it largely depends on if the signal is QAM or the box has a firewire output.

It appears that the digital signal is encrypted - I'm using Rogers Cable - so that rules out anything using unscrambled QAM right?

What would the firewire output enable me to do?

Here is where I got the info: http://www.remotecentral.com/hdtv/rogers.htm

Do you have the cable box already? I bet having the model number would help bring some light to the question.

The cable box is a SCientific Atlantic Explorer 2000. It has:
- 1 USB port
- 1 coax cable out
- 1 Digital Audio out
- 1 8-pin data port (looks similar to an s-video port)

Here is a link to the box: http://www.sciatl.com/products/consumer ... er2000.htm
