Congratulations on joining the millionaires club! Looking at your ppd, I take it you're running the Q6600 at stock speed?

Thanks!

I'm running it slightly overclocked at 2.7 GHz. I also have a PS3, an A64 X2 4400, and a C2D laptop contributing. And my father-in-law's A64 X2 3800, although I'm not sure how often he leaves it on.

Woohoo! I'm TR's fiftieth 1,000,000+ point folder! I never thought I'd make the top 50.
I still remember starting out with only an 850 Duron and a PII-300.

Excuse me while I go try to hide from the sefatglj steamroller and help UGN stay in bright red numbers.

Thanks to all of you who helped by selling me parts at very low prices and by sharing your know-how.
You know who you are and I hope you are feeling as warm and fuzzy as I do.

I finally got my old A64-3200 up and running on its ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 mobo the other day thanks to a new DVD drive and having figured out the AGP card was the problem it was having, and yesterday it turned in its first WU. Today, its second. Got no credit until ~4.5 hours ago for both of them. If I keep getting that particular WU, though, which is a Project 3906 and good for 310 points, with the machine running at 2.2 GHz (the memory under cpu-z says only 146 MHz instead of the stock 200, so I'll have to play with it to see how far I can make it OC...) and finishing in about 16 and 2/3 hours, that's a very pleasant extra > 400 PPD.

Eventually a week of its output will go to notfred, though, and sooner or later I think I'll be giving the machine away.

Edit: Though, looking at this adapter, I'm strongly tempted to keep the machine and turn it into a cheap A64 X2 box with some cheap DDR2 and give away an older machine instead. (Or, since I'll still have the A64-3200, I can use another mobo and just stick a NIC in it and give that away... hmm.)

Hopefully final ninja edit: Congratulations on your recent folding numbers and prowess, farmpuma. You're going to rip past me fairly soon if I don't hurry up and do something about it. :)

Well I finally made it back into the top 20 producers (barley)... and should hit my 1,000,000 mark in the next 2 months... I have 1 more core 2 duo system to get folding.

Hey, a belated congratulations! I'm sorry I missed this post when you made it.

Somehow I snuck into the Top 20 today, so I'm going to brag about that while I can. This Q6600 is steaming along without much trouble ... I'm turning in a WU a little over every 19 hours. I haven't had any dropped units lately, either.

If you had a Q6600, you should be at 15- hours for those a SMP WU. My E6600 clocked at 3.2ghz with a vmware can do WU's in the 19 hour range..

I'm bragging about completing my first ever work unit in... oh, three hours.

Another one will follow in a day

[currently I have my older laptop dedicated to folding - single core 1.8 ghz pentium m dothan core, as well as my desktop, athlon 3800 X2 currently running stock cos folding bluescreened my overclock. Friday I'll be adding a 2.8ghz Pentium D, and in the next two months I'll be adding a quad core solution. Whatever works right? ; ]. And no, no plans at this time to run folding on my underclocked EEE.]

Edit: Added the Pentium D. I forgot the joys of SSH.

I successfully replaced my A64-3200+ with the adapter board and X2 AM2 5000+ Brisbane, which is at 2600 MHz stock. Now running at 3003 MHz, and hopefully as time progresses I'll be able to overclock it some more (the 13x multiplier makes small increments useful). Since it's running notfred's folding CD, and since I abandoned trying to use USB wireless networking, the earlier problems I had with it are gone and it seems perfectly stable, giving me 19.2 minute frames on a Project 2605 WU.

Which makes it my 2nd fastest folding machine. 8)

I'm definitely going to have to figure out some way to move my machines around to other rooms while retaining wired connections, which means converting a wireless gateway to a repeater and maybe eventually connecting a switch to it. So far only my old S 370 Celeron is wireless, and doing that means it has to be sitting at the Windows desktop all day to keep the driver going. Be that as it may, I'm probably going to be above 4000 PPD after things settle down. :D

Just decided to spend some money on upgrading my computer at home to a Q6600 system. It's now currently working its way through the first WU atm, hopefully this will mean that my first entry into multicore computing will increase my ppd a bit.

Yes, although it seems to only load the cores to about 75% or so. I'm not sure whether its worth the effort to load up a second version or not and set affinity to specific cores, guess i'll wait and see what sort of ppd boost this gives me (especially as all the other machines I run F@H on are only single core celerons & semprons)

If you're running the SMP client in windows all 4 cores should be at 100%.

Are you running the SMP client in Windows or in a virtual linux environment? If you're in a virtual environment, you might be limited to only 2 cores. for example, VMplayer only supports two cores. If that's the case then it makes sense you're seeing 75% utilization. You can run two virtual environments to get full utilization

I'm running Xubuntu native, so there is no virtualisation happening. Another thing that I noticed is that with the single SMP client running the cores are only running at 1.6Ghz instead of being ramped up to their full 2.4GHz. That explains why its still nice and quiet 8) . Might start up a second client and assign each to specific cores when I get home from work to see if I can get it to go full on.

July 12 I had my first 10000 point day which wasn't the result of Stanford crediting previously submitted WU's.

Stanford, though, decided not to credit one of my 2605 WU's because it had to go to a collection server and it won't be added to my total until... whenever the original server is fixed (which according to their stats, has happened) and it's verified... or something like that. I just read it on the folding forum but I'm too lazy and tired to find the proper links to everything. I'll fix it tomorrow if I get around to it.

Worse, the same machine that submitted the 2605 was assigned a WU (Project 5102) with 8 days completion time, and it's projeced to take nearly 4 days to finish, and that's with me leaving the machine to fold and nothing else the last nearly 2 days. I've not gotten that WU before, and it makes me wonder if I'm getting it because my total PPD has risen noticeably, recently. Normally that machine crunches nothing but 2605's with the very rare 2665. It used to get 2604's, 2651's, and 2653's, too, but they seem to be unavailable lately.

But this was supposed to be a brag. Oh well.

I think I got my 1760 points from Saturday, tonight, though I'll have to go check their forums to see. I'm reasonably confident they'd rather me not ask them to verify that that's what happened, though. It's just that I got 5 WU's credited at the 6 PM update on EOC, and I can't tell which ones are which.

Still won't be enough for a 10,000 point day, though it's close. Eventually I'll have a day where both AMDs and the Intel will submit WU's, and I'll get 5280 points. That will make a 10,000 point day possible, if my old Barton still left running. Now and then the Intel can sent 2 through in a single day, but it's rare when both AMDs are also submitting them for a 7040 point day. Electricity use hasn't been measured lately, though, so the Barton may be retired. But it did on Saturday.

The 5102 is still chugging along. If I keep getting them, a 10,000 point day may never happen.

JPinTO: Congrats, but you've been the #2 producer on the team for a number of days according to EOC.

I may poke into the top 10 for a few hours today since I've pushed in at least 13801 points today. Won't happen again very soon, and then I'll fall back some more after I find out how much the video card is costing to run.

Oh, and one more little thing: leor, you like eating my PPD dust? You seem to like it.

One day wonder though I may be, it's funny to see how few computers can produce so many points. 3 8800GT's with the right speed can get you 15000 PPD, and throw in one or two quads and you're over 20000. Amazing. Wouldn't surprise me if it's short-term, though.
