Thanks

My recommendations (for all it is worth):

low end:
ATI RADEON 7000 64MB W/TV - $47.00

mid range:
Geforce2 Ti 64mb - $74.00
ATI RADEON 7500 64MB TV OUT/DVI - $71.00

Check pricewatch.com for current prices (I found the Radeon 7000 info on newegg.com)

Ok here goes...
Cheap less than $100.
I am not into serious gaming.

I am building a system on a budget.
So far I have the mobo, a Soyo Dragon+.
I will most likely get a Duron 1.? CPU &
256 DDR
I will use my old HP cdrw
Mobo has onboard sound.

Does this help?
Thanks.

I've got a Radeon 7000 and it's OK. 3D games aren't too bad as long as I don't go over 1024x768. And 2D is clear as a bell, much sharper than the GF2 it replaced. And I also swear the 2D speed is faster than the GeForce, but it could just be my imagination. One problem - AVI's don't play as well on it. Sometimes I get big white blocks over part of the video and it doesn't look quite as smooth as it does on the GeForce.

I'm with the Radeon also, I love it's smooth DVD playback, better than I've seen with most cards.
Steel, never seen what you've got. Hmmmm....

It's mostly with high resolution DivX stuff, maybe I'll update the drivers and give it another go.

What about the Visiontek GeForce2 GTS-V 32mb DDR? It can be found online for about $48 and is a great card for that price.

this article should give you a good idea of what type of performance you'll get out of some different budget cards.

Well the price of the GF2-MX200 is certainly budget, but the card is not. It's junk for anything but occasional gaming where modern games are concerned (which is usually the reason for upgrading your graphics card). The crippled memory bus hampers the cards performance, and the core is two years old now. It's certainly not the "fastest 2D/3D video accelerator". The GF2-MX400 is a far superior card for only a few dollars more. Or, if you're looking for a non-nVidia solution, the ATI Radeon 7000 and 7200 fall into the same price bracket.
