Shuttle SN45g for gaming

Hello all,

A while ago i looked into SFF system's for lan gaming, but didn't like what was out on the market. So i took it upon myself to make one. Now i see shuttle has one Sn45g and it looks sweet. But whats holding me back from buying one is the one problem SFF have and thats the power supply 200 watt's is just to small.

The graphic's card i have in mind i want to put in it would be the nidiva FX5900 ultra. By chance does anyone know if you could put a bigger wattage in?

Wattage aside, the 5900 Ultra may not even fit in the cube. Shuttle traditionally puts the AGP slot on the outside, which means that graphics cards with taller heat sinks that take up two PCI slots won't fit. The reference 5900 Ultra's PCI back plate is also two slots wide, further taking Shuttle's cubes out of the running.

Go with a 9800 Pro if the 5900 won't fit! :wink:

I don't think you can get a more powerful PSU. Atleast not from Shuttle. It's rather powerful for it's measly 200watts so you probably wouldn't even need a larger one. It's not like your gonna have a slew of drives to feed power to either.

What would be a good gaming card for the shuttle then? The reason i used the FX from nivida is that it recommends a 300 watt power supply, dont all good gaming cards need a 300 watt Ps?

Err...higher power needs don't make for a better card.

If you want top of the line FX5900 Ultra and Radeon 9800 Pro are the best out there. I think the 5900 is physically larger in almost every aspect.

I've read about people fitting 9800's into Shuttles SFF boxes.

I ran a 9700 pro in my shuttle cube and never had a problem. Truly, give the ATi cards your consideration.... I know for a fact they work well and that there is no problem with space or power consumption while running two hd's, and a cdrw/dvd. I even had a pci card in drawing a bit extra power, too. No problems whatsoever with an SN41g2.
