See for yourselves and have fun! I have my 2900XT folding@3D clocks right now. Only 1330PPD but its definitely very very fast. The ETA for a WU is under 10 minutes. I think I'll opt to download large WUs and see if I get more points. Please fold with your Crossfire or 3870X2 setups. I would really like to know how well it works.

1330ppd is not bad. What's the ppd on the 3xxx I wonder? Looks like the quadcores may still lead in the ppd/watt department since GPUs usually burn a lot more watts.

This sounds like it'd be perfect for a dual core with a 3870X2.

Costwise I think the SMP may be a better deal to the folder.

Thanks for the good news David! I wonder if you can run it with 2 SMP clients on a Q6600? That may generate unacceptable levels of heat.

Can you run this GPU2 client on Linux using Wine? I have an inquiring mind and I want to know.

Unfortunately you cannot use two clients on the 3870X2 yet.Crossfire has to be DISABLED for you to run it on two separate cards with -gpu 0/-gpu 1 flags. I can run both the single core x86 CPU client along side the GPU client. You have to start the CPU client first though or it will error out. I set the affinity of the clients to their own SEPARATE cores and PPD is great. Right now I'm getting 1350PPD from my 2900XT on this 2.8Ghz Opteron 185 system.

also running it at 100% with the smp going as well. gpu temp is a nice 56 with a 877 core on the hd3870 and an average 40 gpu utilization peak is 60 according to riva tuner, anyone else wanna describe folding wit hd3870

My next concern is the log file is getting bigger & bigger
and GPU client use NotePad to open the log file.

I'm not so sure about this GPU client. Seems like you'd get a lot of heat running your GPU 24/7 that hard. I can hear my poor PS3 fan running all the time trying to keep up with the heat. Trying to run the thing into the ground so I can easily justify getting a home theater PC... Uh, if my wife is trolling this forum, that was a joke

well i have it folding on my 3850 now and ill post back with results once i get them

oh and did anyone else have to move the amd dll's into their folding folder? Mine were placed in appdata and i had to move them into the f@h folder for it to run properly

Ah well I turned my PC off last night and the core got deleted somehow >.> I'll see if it happens again later when I go to work.

I think you should turn down the SMP to 70% strength .... CPU power is required to assist GPU for folding...

haha ya i quit smp and it was running each frame at 53 seconds, that was jus a test tho earlier to see how it runs with both clients running symmetrically

Argh yeah the GPU client keeps losing work files on my PC if turned off. I guess its back to CPU until a newer update is released...

too bad a SMP WU is worth 1760 points and the GPU WU is only worth 97

my new plan is that i will fold wit the gpu when im at home, and when im away/sleeping/work i fold wit the smp, still will make the deadline as 16+ hours will be folding wit the smp, this seems like the good idea to do its like a mini ps3 folding too witht he hd3870
thanks for that advice on the changing to 70% but it was running 30 minutes a frame, not my cup of tea since it runs about 14-16 per frame without the gpu runnin

In case anyone is keeping track of how different GPUs are performing, my normal GPU is a 2600 Pro, but I had to RMA it today, so I went to Best Buy and bought a 3650 that I will take back when my new/refurb 2600 gets here.

Anyway, my 2600 gets ~660 PPD and the 3650 has been getting about 770 PPD according to FahMon

Im getting 855 PPD when overclocked to 837/522 on the 3650

According to FahMon, my 3870 is doing 963 PPD. That's stock, I haven't overclocked or otherwise tweaked the card at all.

If you're using a 3870, you're likely CPU limited. People on the F@H Forum are, even with a 3.6 C2Q!

My 2600PRO required an overclock to 3.6 GHz on my old P4 HT in order to max out the GPU core.
