I want to buy a camera

Fri Apr 18, 2008 5:24 am

Yes, to take some good quality pictures, without much effort, and to be at a reasonable price.
Any suggestions ?

some wishes:
1. support for SDHC: 8 to 32 GB.
2. Standard AA accumulators.
3. max optical zoom (10x)
4. low price

Canon A series. AA batteries, reasonably priced, image stabilization available, easy to use, and takes great pictures.

Check out this one:

*Edit: Didn't catch your requirement for 10x optical zoom. Take a look at this one:

I found that model: http://www.livius.ro/canon/canon-powershot-sx100-is.htm
in some local store. It is not cheap, but I like it.
Other suggestions before I buy ?

Wow - that is way too much to pay for that camera. Shop around more. That sells for about 210 USD around here.

This may be a bit big to put into your pocket. So bear that in mind.

A more compact one is the Panasonic TZ series.

I too wanted a camera that used AA batteries. I ended up getting the Fujifilm E550 and it has been great. I cant stress enough though to get 4-6 good quality rechargeable batteries. I used to just use some normal rechargeable sony batteries and honestly they were pretty horrible.
Awesometown.

Sanyo FTW. 8) Not to mention I can use those batteries for other things on a whim too.

A good charger is indispensible too.

Dare I suggest an entry level SLR? Either the Pentax K200D or its younger brother the K100D Super? Both fit all the requirements except low price (10x zoom with another lens though), but I thought I'd mention it since you do get the benefits of an SLR :D. And yes, both use AA batteries.

Don't buy superzooms. They invariably have chromatic fringing and are soft through a lot of their range.

Point and shoots are pretty useless for telephoto photography anyway since they have small apertures and low resolving power. If you want to take sports/action/wildlife photography, you need an SLR with a nice prime or fast tele zoom.

Zoom is a stupid metric used to move merchandise (like the megahertz myth or OMFG LCD response times).

Buy a camera that suits your photography needs and gives you the best value at the price.
