So... looks like the D945GCLF is out now...

1.6GHz single-core Atom, i945 chipset, and the thing would've EASILY been fanless had they not used the Intel chipset.

10/100 LAN (no gigabit,) and PCI (not PCIe) for more downsides. (They wouldn't affect my use of it, but...)

Then again, the price is right... the most expensive places want about $100 for it, and I see mini-box is listing it for $80 (but they're out of stock...) This thing is gonna thrash VIA.

Now, if they could just make one with a fanless chipset and a dual-core Atom... I'd rebuild my server. (The Celeron 1100 is getting just a bit long in the tooth...) Don't suggest the D201GLY2 - that thing wasn't designed for fanless applications, it's for when there's a case fan powerful enough to cool everything.

RAID support would be nice, too (not sure if the D945GCLF can handle RAIDs.)

Regular desktop 945GC chipset does not seem to need active cooling IIRC. What's going on there? Did they OC the graphics core? :o
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

I'm wondering if it's because of the intended application for this board... "Nettops," which are basically really cheap SFF machines.

Maybe they're using a northbridge fan in place of a case fan, or something.
