Fantasy Nascar League

Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:04 pm

Would anyone be interested in starting up a fantasy Nascar league? The one on Yahoo looks decent and it should be fun. It will also give me reason to watch specific drivers throughout the race.

I'm up for this. I'm also in a free league on the NASCAR site with folks from another forum.

I'm a sucker for anything with 4 wheels & an engine, so I'm in. Need to get it started before Sunday, though.

Captain Ned's brilliant choice of race-winner Ryan Newman (1st) versus my pick of Reed Sorenson (5th) in group B gives Captain's Crashers the lead after the Daytona 500. We both picked Tony Stewart (3rd), Dale Earnhardt Jr (9th) and Michael Waltrip (29th) as our other three active drivers. Interestingly, we both also picked Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Mark Martin on our inactive list. I had Brian Vickers inactive vs. Ned's Travis Kvapil in group C.

The ideal choices for this week would have been:
A: Kurt Busch (2nd)
B: Ryan Newman (1st)
B: Kyle Busch (4th)
C: Brian Vickers (12th)

My team did very well this week. I had Carl Edwards (1st), Kyle Busch (4th), Greg Biffle (15th) and Brian Vickers (11th). Captain's Crashers would have had another excellent week if not for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s misfortune in being caught up in a wreck not of his making. This affected the other two teams in the league, as well.

The ideal choices for week two's Auto Club 500 at California would have been:
A: Carl Edwards (1st)
B: Kyle Busch (4th)
B: Martin Truex, Jr. (6th)
C: Brian Vickers (11th)

Argh! I dropped from 484th to 2440th place overall today. Kyle Busch really let my team down.

I dropped more places to 4047th place. Earnhardt faded in the last 1/4 of the race and Kenseth went backwards in the last 10 laps.

We'll see how some of you do later on this season when you've used up all your starts from the big name guys. There's 36 races and each driver can only start 9 all season.

Strategery, I tells ya, it's strategery.

Ugh.

Kenseth never got a handle on the changing conditions and crashed twice. Newman ran fast but blew up and oiled down the whole track. :(

Yeah, Kyle Busch only has one race left for me, but that gives me the opportunity to learn more about lesser known drivers.

I finally got to the #1 spot, but I wonder how long I will be able to hold it.

Wow. Dale Earnhardt Jr. blows by the ambulance at 150 mph on pit road (while the pits are closed) and NASCAR decides not to give him any penalty at all. You know that if that had been Robby Gordon, they would have held him for two laps and fined him $50,000.

Sigh. I missed the deadline to start Mark Martin instead of Greg Biffle. I decided that I'd be okay with that--then Biffle ran into Montoya and Tony climbed out of the 20. :(
