OK fellow Gerbils. As promised I added my PS3 back to the fold to bump up team 2630's Points Per Day (PPD). I suggest we post here the systems we add to the fold. And more importantly, show appreciation for the new recruits!

If we want our PPD to trend upwards we can't just add folders, we have to KEEP the ones that join. That means enthusiasm and recognition when Gerbils join

Here's our PPD in the last month. As you can see in the last day the CALL TO ARMS has started to show a positive trend in our PPD. We veteran folders can help keep this up by welcoming the new guys to the fold, and letting them know their contribution is appreciated!

Yah, we do need to hold on to the folders we have.
EOC stats shows TR loosing active users. 310 down to 275 in about a month.The total users (non active and active) went up only 10 in the same time frame.

Definitely use the GPU2 client. I like the system tray because it is easy to setup. (1600-2000 ppd?)
And if you can run some form of SMP client that would use the rest of your CPU for a lot of points too. (3000-4000 ppd?)

We typically lose a few people over the summer, when the extra heat generated by dedicated folding systems fights with the A/C; many of these people will come back in the fall when the weather cools down. I imagine the crappy economy is at least partly to blame as well; people who are being squeezed financially may have shut down to save on electricity costs.

What I'd say to this is, even if you're not planning on leaving dedicated systems running 24x7, at least keep the client installed on your regular desktop systems. The incremental increase in power usage on a system which is powered on anyway is not that much, and even part-time production adds up -- a bunch of people just folding in the background while they web surf and check e-mail can make a big difference!

It looks like you are running the GPU2 client based on your 480 points that hit recently (GPU2 work units are worth 480 points each). The GPU2 client is the best point producing client out there right now. ALL clients do good research though

The GPU2 systray client also has the advantage of not needing to run most of the time (unlike the SMP client). And of course easier to install & use...

Has there been any feedback if something can be added to the forum to indicate some folding status? (e.g. get a special badge at 100K points).

p.s. although a bit late, the responses to the front page article was ... a bit weak? Quite a few negative posts (or responses to them that kept them at the top) and even a competitor posting!? More positive info and support from team members would have been nice to see - maybe next time (as it is too late now)?
p.p.s. Although I'm running another team, I still want to see this team flourish, so I'll periodically help out where I can.

Nope, for the monthly stats it is a mix of a few different things - excel, some c# coding and manual editing.

I believe you can get about 1000ppd from an 8600. Even my 'lowly' 8500GT gets about 500ppd.

I currently just have my 9600GT running GPU2. My CPU and my laptop are both dual-core but they are running BOINC at the moment. Thinking of running SMP clients on those too... But being a long time user of BOINC, it feels weird dropping it.

Definitely, the nVidia GPU2 client offers the best bang for the buck for producing output for our team. And they're fairly easy to set up using the system tray version.

I also got my C2D running again, and for the moment it's running at 3120 MHz which is better than it was before. I wouldn't be surprised if my Crucial Ballistix DDR2 chokes on me at some point like the first pair did, though.

I've checked eBay the last few days, and people seem to be selling 8800 GT cards at pretty reasonable prices. Today an 8800GT-256 like mine went for $71 shipping included, which is cheaper than I got mine for if my rebate comes through. Here's another that will be done tomorrow morning, currently going for $78, and at 512MB a better card than mine.

I would advise anyone with a system with a free PCIe slot to try to buy one and get it going. As I mentioned elsewhere, before I overclocked my 8800 it was using about 46 watts, and the entire system, an A64-3200 at stock CPU speed was using ~166 watts. Fairly inexpensive considering the great output.

It installs 'fine', and all the processes run at startup...but nothing happens. So anyway. If both could run simultaneously, that might yield some decent PPD on this desktop.

Did you run that install.bat stuff? I also don't think it can be configured to run as a service yet? Also, if you are running on XP, then the GPU2 client will seem to be locking up a core to itself, so the drop off in SMP ppd may be too great. You will have to do some tests on that to see if it is worthwhile.

My main rig's PSU is dying so I can no longer fold on it. But I still use the GPU to fold abit. Now i'm also adding a Macbook Pro from my office to fold but the client is not too stable.

turned my PS3 on this morning, its up, GPU was running yesterday, laptop is now running, and am running one VM, as that seems to keep my processor temp a BIT more managable [and twoxVM was taking an abnormally long time with my gpu going. Anyone got advice for how to set affinity for two VMs + GPU client effectively once it cools down? Remember im using an ATI video card so its only 1400ish ppd]
