Hance wrote:The 1708s and 1908s look interesting. Are they TN panels, by any chance?I actually have the 2001FP so its getting pretty old. No dead pixels and I have had no problems with it at all. Get a dell vrock great return/exchange policy and they last a long time. My wife has the 1901FP ( i think thats the model) and it has worked great for quite a few years also.
torax wrote:I'm looking to keep the replacement for a long time, 5-10 years actually.Since you're replacing a CRT, can I assume that you are looking to keep its replacement for a long time too or are you just bridging a gap? If the former, the quality of the dell monitors is well worth the price premium.

They have 160 degree viewing angles, so I think they're TNs.

wabbit wrote:Very interesting. It's on my short list now. Thanks.Samsung 971P... what seems to be the problem... 19'', PVA panel, good looks... a bit pricey, but it's great. my friend has it and i would rather have that one instead of my 931BW...
oh yeah, if swiwel is important to you, try finding 970P... it's the older version of 971P (duh )

Not a gimmick for me.. I use the extra space. Like I posted earlier. Its getting hard to find a Non TN 4:3

Um, no. The 1908FP is one of their more recent models & almost certainly TN. There's a reason it's tens of dollars cheaper than the 1907FPV.

Don't believe in the stupid ms specs. The older ones like the 2001FP were measured in different ways than these "newer" ones with fancy grey-to-grey and other **** that makes the number look smaller. Not all people are obsessed with the "speed" of the monitor. A squarish aspect ratio, viewing angles, and colour reproduction are also important factors.
And I also suggest Vrock to look at the 2001FP, if you can still find them. It's not 19" but as others said, non-TN 17-19" are getting very hard to find.
FireGryphon wrote:Because height is more important to me than width when it comes to computer monitors. I don't care for widescreens for surfing the net, and I don't run multiple spreadsheets, etc. at once. As for gaming, I have lots of older games that don't run in widescreen resolution (especially on my retro box), and I'm not enthusiastic about paying for screen real estate I can't/won't use.Just curious about the OP: why do you not want a widescreen? I went with a widescreen LCD when my 19" 4:3 CRT died, and I couldn't be happier with the choice.
