TR Fantasy Hockey 08-09 Thread

Thu Sep 18, 2008 3:58 pm

I'm going to be creating some fantasy hockey yahoo team(s) prolly this weekend.

Last year I had a head-2-head and a rotisserie league that I invited TR ppl to, and I'll likely do the same again this year.

Please let me know here if you would like to join. I will actually invite those whom I think will actually commit the required time and not slack off (which ruins the experience for everyone else), and send those selected PM invites with the league ID and password(s). Fantasy geeks only, is basically what I'm saying. Dead teams piss me off bigtime. Also, you have to really like hockey to want to do this. I tried basketball years ago, and I wasn't interested in basketball, so I slacked off - same with Golf (I have no idea what I was thinking there). So I'm trying to avoid that scenario from happening in the first place... Canadians and Detroiters (and those that have been active managers in the past in my leagues) may receive an unfair advantage.

With hockey, it's a little more work then football, as you have to set your lineups every day - and account for how your pre-set week’s roster gets screwed up if you add/drop players or accept trades. Head to Head is very similar to the way we play football on the TR leagues. With rotisserie, you are limited in how many times you can play a given slot - so you play your best players against the best matchups - while trying to insure you use up all your slots - but not use them up to early before the season ends.

So let me know if you would like to give it a go, and which league style interests you the most (both is OK).
Let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks 8)

Edit: Last year's thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53396
I intend to keep scoring the same, except I'm going to eliminate SHG and SHA and replace them with just SHP.

I'm up for the head-to-head league.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Put me down for Head-to-Head.

Looks like nobody wants to do rotisserie from TR. That's OK.
I have 5 players for this TR league including myself. My wife and brother are willing to join this league too to make 7 if I ask them.
One more person would be ideal for either a 6 or 8 player head-2-head league.

ANYONE ELSE? PLEEEEEEEASE? :)

I just don't like the way they do scoring on fantasy hockey. I don't want to have to change my roster everyday because I need a guy who shoots more rather than someone who actually scores points. Just to have to change it back the next day because I need a scorer.
For those that fought for it, freedom has a taste that the protected will never know.

The draft last night went FAST didn't it Captain?

With only 6 players, with only 3 of us logged in you didn't get tons of time to choose. No matter though as there as so many good players to choose from with only 6 teams. My wife took the 6th slot so we could have an even number of teams for head-2-head games. I'm amazed that hockey season has snuck up on me as fast as it has.

I love my team: Crosby, Datsyuk, Hossa were my first 3 picks I think. :o

Maybe later I'll post the draft results here for all to see.

I have another Head-2-Head league going, mostly offline friends and family, drafting this Thursday night. If you are interested, I could possibly squeeze you in to this next one. Let me know.

The regular season (really) starts tonight!

Check those lineups! Make sure your dudes are hurt or on IR, etc.

Phear my 1-2-3 combo of Crosby, Datsyuk, and Hossa! 8)

Sure, pick up Manny Legace and get rid of the worthless Dan Ellis and what does he do? Trips over a fargin' carpet and pulls a groin?

"I wonder who Manny Legace is voting for this year?"

I'm quietly rising in the ranks, no dead weight this year folks. After this week, I may volt ahead to the 3 or 2 spot. I dropped (*sigh*) Holmstrom, dude just isn't gonna get better anytime soon. Picked up a solid Kessel (Boston impresses me, they aren't stacked to the ceiling with talent, but damn they play hard), Also got Bieksa back of the IR. Should be a strong finish this weekend and from here on.

The trick for me this year was setting my roster once for 5+ days and monitoring them that way. The once a day thing was what kept me from being competitive as I frequently forgot. Not doing terrible in my football league either, cool.

Just wanted to say: Thanks Pete!
I'm still going to smoke you this week though! :D

I'm dismayed about the Yahoo playoff (lack of) options with only 6 teams though because it appears everyone makes it to the playoffs!
I may need to investigate another host or try harder to get more players next year. I'm sure I could also get my brother-in-law to join in addition to my wife next year.

At least the top two teams have a bye the first round of the playoffs.

It appears that the team "The Pike Behemoth" has not been playing. He's not filling his slots with active players and hasn't made any moves since right after the draft.

Pete: Sorry about Nash - I'm glad I traded him and his no drop status away early on in the season in another league.
I thought he was doing alright though recently 'till he got hurt. Lower body injury is all it says on Yahoo.

WTF happened to the Penguins? they were doing OK earlier in the season, but now they play like the Islanders.

I finally saw that fight that Semin got into - OMG that looked funny. :o He'll never get past that one.

Pikaporeon got the message (thanks), and now things aren't going as breezy for Steel City anymore - We got ourselves a close matchup there!

Meanwhile the Captain and I sit back (on our first round BYEs) and wonder who we'll be playing next week.

What do you guys think of Ovie's latest celebration?

Steel CIty took the Captain down and now Steel City and I are facing each other for the league championship!

Pete's got the upper hand right now, but it won't last. He's got like 2 ppl playing today versus a stacked lineup on my team :)

Taking over? I don't think so :P

It'll be a fun matchup for sure - don't forget championship week lasts two weeks
