Web Cam recommendations

Wed Nov 12, 2008 7:09 pm

I got a little one on the way and I would like to set up web cams at my place and my folks place for some "face to face"time. Any recommendations on equipment or services I should use? I have $150 budget. Thanks for your help!

hey! welcome to TR :)

$150 is quite a lot for buying two webcams but i think this model from Logitech would fit your bill just nicely

Just get another webcam like that one and put yahoo messenger on both computers and your set to go. That is probably the most common and easy to use setup there is for a webcam.

Google's video chat looks even more promising.

Thanks for the info, now I have a place to start. That Google chat looks pretty simple, I might just have to try it.

I do it through MSN/Live Messenger. I got the Communicator STX and it is really nice. However I told my mom to get the Microsoft VX-3000 and it looks sort of crappy. I would have thought Microsoft cam + Live Messenger would make a good combo, but may be I need the VX-6000 or just go with a Logitech.

As for other brands? I really don't know. At the very least I don't trust the other drivers.
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.
