Tricks to make xcompmgr Perform Better

Postposted on Thu Dec 04, 2008 1:35 am

I have been having quite a time finding information regarding xcompmgr and settings related to xorg.conf. Even just finding recent list related to Nvidia settings is a chore.

Anyone know of anything?

Perhaps this may be of some use? It's for Openbox and xcompmgr, on Ubuntu, but the principles should be the same. There's also a page on xcompmgr over at the Arch Linux wiki. Some possible usage notes (what to expect) over on Kmandla's blog; he has a fair amount of other transparency posts if you're willing to search.

Finally, there's always the Gentoo Forums.

All those really show is enabling the composite extension in X.Org. Which I've done. I've also enabled BackingStore -- from what I understand BackingStore is the equivalent to Triple Buffer in DirectX/Windows -- and RENDER. The thing is I don't know if RENDER is really needed, or what it does. Is it possible that the 100+ series of Nvidia drivers are enabling most things and so the only thing I need to do is enable the composite extension and BackingStore?
