Have you seen this case?

Wed Dec 17, 2008 12:48 am

Im sure you all remember when cases used to be pretty practical, made of metal, were straight forward and easy to build in.

that is my favorite case design of all time. i cant find them... any of you guys know where i can get this style of case? everyone and their mom used to be selling them... it was antecs flagship case for a long time if i remember correctly. at least it was fora little while... i hope... :(

Try this outfit -

This case design is quite old so Froogle didn't turn up much other than the above link.

Also known as a Chieftec DG-01. Chieftec still has them on their website so you should be able to turn something up if you look hard enough. I'm sure if you called them they would direct you to an appropriate distributor.

How's this? http://www.ncixus.com/products/33589/DG ... /Chieftec/

Yup, I love those cases too. Sturdy design, removable drive cages, rails for the 5-1/4" bays, plenty of room to work inside. No built-in front panel USB though, which is their one downside.

I picked up a few cases similar to that several years ago, when TigerDirect had a truckload of 'em on clearance. The colors are a little funky though... one of 'em is even puke green, WTF were they thinking?

Could always install a drive bay mounted USB on the front, so that's not too bad for the only shortcoming.

My Dad's PC is still in my old Antec SX1080. My brother's PC is in my old Thermaltake aluminum version of the same design. Mom's PC is in an Antec SX830. Yes, those cases were simple and solid, and I purchased my share.

ah, the "dragon" case. i still have one.

to be honest, though, there's many cases that are much better now... except they're much more expensive.

Meh, I'll take one of the newer Lian Li, Silverstone, Coolermaster, etc. cases over one of these any day. There are a lot more choices when it comes to good-looking cases now than there were 5-6 years ago.

The later versions had a couple of ports.

true, but i do appreciate the simple functionality of these cases. though there are some sleek lookers out there, i used to have a lian li pc2000 i think, had wheels and looked like a mac/fridge. that was pretty cool but almost character less.

these cases are the backwoods georgian plumber vs the northwest lawyer who grew up in a middle-upper class family.

they both do their jobs and both are pretty neat in their own respects, but i always liked their simple design and functionality.

I just shipped one to a friend a couple of months ago. Antec SX1040b I think it was called. It housed a Tbird 1400 I put together for another friend years ago. Those things sure weigh alot.......

Still have one of those, dark gray, the older version just before they added front-panel USB ports. Great case (other than a bit of paint damage on top) but just too big for me, so it's sitting in storage until I figure out what to do with it. The previous owner that I bought it from even added some Dynamat patches to the interior.
