I have a drive that i want to move to another computer (KT-133E to a Wintell BX440 chipset) I have ran sysprep before I removed it from my first system.

I have seen the M$ articles on sysprep, different HAL's etc. but I'm looking for a better (easier) way to do it without doing a merge the registry deal and all of that.

I did this before in 98SE by deleting the enum key in the registry and let Windows rebuild the pnp by itself. There were issues but they were delt with one at a time.

I know this is 2k (w/sp2 installed) but there must be a easier way.

By moving the drive, do you mean the boot drive? Like installing Win2K on one computer and then taking the drive and putting it into a different computer and using that as the OS drive?

I wouldn't recommend that since the motherboards are so different.

Well if you want to try it....

Here is a link that has four different methods:

But most of it doesn't seem very applicable to your situation. It mentions the registry key for Win9x systems but there isn't anything similar for Win2K. But it does suggest to just go into the Device Manager and remove all the devices by hand.

So that is what I would do. Before transfering the disk, go into the device manager and remove every single device that is listed. Then plug shutdown the machine and transfer the hard drive.

I did this before w/ 98SE and you can do the same thing by deleting the 'enum' key in the registry. That's what I wanted to do here but couldn't find the key, and I don't know if 2k has one similar.
I will look at the VIA site though. Thanks for that.

They were not in the 2 locations that were mentioned!

I would still like to know if:

1. enum exists in 2k as it did im 98SE/ME

2. where is it since I can't find it doing a search.

Yes it does; it serves the same function.

2. where is it since I can't find it doing a search.

It would be in one of the two locations mentioned previosuly. There is apparently something wrong with your system, perhaps the key has already been re-named or removed?

There are 572 keys with enum in them.

The 2 strings that were given didn't exist after searching via Reg Crawler!

If they were deleted or re-named, I doubt the system would boot or at least would be able to load fully.
