2009 Stanley Cup Finals

Fri May 29, 2009 10:30 am

Random Thoughts:

Looking forward to this weekend!

Although I'm happy to see to NBC (HD) games this weekend I cannot believe that the league is having the games on back-2-back nights. If game one goes to like 2-3 OT's can you imagine? All because of Conan O'Brian *sigh* and NBC being afraid of games running over or something. This is the the same network that had to cut game coverage last year to switch over to the 2 hour pre-show for the preakness horse race. Still better then hockey on Versus over ESPN though. Bettman can suck it.

Congrats to Chicago for a great year, I'm sure we'll be seeing you more often in the playoffs from now on - and once some of those young players mature a little more.... look out everyone else.

I'm going to still call Toews "Toes" and Byfuglien (sp) "Bafooglian". :)

Anaheim I still look at as the team that represented the biggest threat to beating the Wings.

With Lidstom back, I think Wings/Pens will go to 6 games - with the Red Wings winning it away. Hopefully Datsyuk and Ericsson can make it back in time too. If some of those hurt player don't return, I think it'll be closer and go to 7 games.

Darren Helm's penalty killing shift in the last game was really amazing!

Either that Ovechkin falling down and scoring goal from earlier in the playoffs or that amazing Malkin no look backwards backhand top corner goal from last week on Ward are my top two picks for goal of the playoffs so far.

Detroit is by far the superior team, however, their stars and consequently their depth is in question due to injury. Playing back to back games isn't going to be good for them even though the penguins are not that physically dominating. I'd like to see Malkin get Kronwalled because I don't think he has heart to come back from it, I know Crosby does.

Stupid Flightless Water Fowl.

ZOMG game 7 Friday :o

It's going to be insane. I think I may need some heart medicine or something, it's going to be rough on the nerves!

Unless Ozzy gets a shutout (or Zetterburg or Crosby dominate) I think Malkin is getting the Conn Smyth win or loose.

Obviously not what I expected, obviously not pleased with the result. That said, the Pens had the superior goaltender and that's all that won it for them. We had our chances and couldn't get it passed them.I thought we played poorly until late in the second, and then we dominated. But there is no 4th period in Hockey and the Pens won it. I didn't have any problems with the refs, some minor nitpicks. I am glad Hossa will be gone as he is a heartless ghost come playoffs.

I hope Chelios retires, I hope Lidstrom doesn't. I wouldn't be upset if Osgood retired either, I've never been a big fan but I don't think he cost us the series by any means. I guess if you have to lose, to lose in fashion is as good as it gets. 1 series, 1game, 1 goal. Good year Redwings, See you soon.

Not from my POV. Tonight, the Pens clearly wanted it more than the Wings.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

A fun game to watch at the end. I felt like Detroit had a 5 minute power play in the third period from 9:00-4:00 remaining.

Suck it Detroit.
Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit them with it.

Why? Considering the salary they were going to pay him, they wouldn't have been able to sign some of the players they did.

Honestly they were both good teams. But when I found out how many payers on the wings would have NOT been skating (and were only doing so for games) the Pens had the good fortune of not having been bitten as hard by the injury bug. Still it took them 7 games.

But luck does play a part in winning. Sometimes it's just avoiding the bad things.
