I'm using Virtual Box
Today, I moved my ubuntu virtual machine's disk off of my OS drive to my files drive. I deleted the old virtual machine and created a new one pointing to the relocated virtual disk.
Everything started up just fine. Except for eth0.

I tried a '/etc/init.d/networking restart' and it gives me this message:


I tried shutting down, removing the bridged adapter and using no adapter, starting up, the restarting and putting the bridged adapter back, but no dice, no change in behavior.

Should I try deleting that pid file?

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Did you try reinstalling the guest additions?

remove the records from "/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules" and power cycle your VM.

bthylafh, thanks much for the response. I don't have guest additions installed yet. I don't even know what they do

Guest additions give you better integration with your host system. Automatic mouse capture/release when you move the mouse in/out of the VM window, better video performance, automatic resizing of the VM desktop if you resize the VM window, easier sharing of files between the host and guest system, and maybe a few other features I'm not remembering off the top of my head.
