The 5400 series quad core Xeons in this series of Mac Pro http://support.apple.com/kb/SP11 how do they equate to their desktop CPU cousins, they are not Nehalem based correct? They would be Core based?

They are essentially the same as the Q9xxx Core 2 Quads. which are simply pairs of core 2 duos stuck together in the same package.

dual 5400's are essentially 4 core 2 duos. with all the ramifications of having 8 cores on a single FSB.

only the 5500's (nehalem based) are single die with no FSB to limit them.
