Apple event 9/9/09

Mon Aug 17, 2009 9:55 pm

I wonder if they are going to upgrade the iPod Classic to a larger capacity :) . Ever since they went to 120GB, that is not really good enough for all the music AND the videos I would put in one  . Anyone have any ideas as to what may be released on 9/9/09?

My guess is an updated iPod classic and iPod touch lineup. The iPod touch will probably get picture/video capability with a boost in capacity.

...and I hope for Apple tablet news.

It's September, it's the iPod upgrade cycle. Probably new capacities all around and either a confirmation of iTablet rumors or some really dumb-looking rumor mongers.

Oh, and I predict an iTouch S to go with the iPhone 3GS

Most of the rumor-mongers I'm reading say no confirmation until next year.

They didn't change the name for the second-gen; I doubt they will for these ones either.

Will there be a price drop across any of the iPod categories? I can't see Apple willing to drop any lower than they already have.

A price drop, particularly on iPod Nanos and Classics, would be nice. Larger capacities are more likely though. The Classic should be about 200-250GB :D by now rather than that measly 120GB  .

I don't really disagree with you, but I think there is a problem with diminishing returns on making larger HD based iPods. I have well over 100GB of music alone, but none of my friends have anywhere near that. So, do you build a unit for the 1 out of 50 that has a huge library of music or do you chase the median? The only way to make a 250GB iPod compelling would be to shift the focus to something that takes more space, like video. While the 120 can play video, it certainly isn't optimized for it, not like the iPod Touch. So, before making a 250GB iPod Classic, it would seem to make more sense to me to make a 250GB HD based iPod Touch......

Or maybe an iPod Tablet?

I've never been a huge fan of the tablet computer idea, but I do think an iPod based multimedia tablet with limited applications capability might have some possibilities. Still, I'm not sure there is enough of a market for it for Apple to build one.

Anyone still know what Apple released today? The Apple store is still open as normal as of right now.

The event is at like 10am Pacifici, not for another 3.5 hours.

They've made some price cuts on existing models:

of course they have. I bought a new SanDisk 8GB player on Saturday. You're welcome.

Re: Apple event 9/9/09

I dropped by the Apple Store down in Estero, FL and wondered with one of the staff if Apple would at least bump up the iPod Touch to 64GB since I have about 31GB of mp3 files (possibly more). While the $399 price is high, at least the Touch has 64GB.

A 160GB iPod Classic is what I have waited for for the past year or two (ever since they dumped it for a 120GB). Woo Hoo! $249 is highish, but at least they did not RAISE prices.

I also saw the missing 16GB Touch and am bewildered by this omission. I wonder if the 16GB iPod Touch will ultimately replace the 8GB Touch at the $199 price point.

Could all of this be better? Sure, but this is Apple; they love their margins. It is too bad that no one has actually challenged Apple to the point where Cupertino would sell iPods for cheap.
