If Cincinnati beats Pitt they should leap TCU in the standings. They'll probably still need Texas to lose, though.

Well yeah there is always that. :D

I still say they should join a conference though and get a tougher schedule.

They sure are not getting any respect being Navy's bitch every year.

EDIT: Does charlie suck as a head coach or is it the whole org that drags him down? (His stats seem to mirror that last 2 coaches).

An employee at C.J.'s Pub who asked that his name not be used told ESPN's George Smith that several Notre Dame upperclassmen were with Clausen at the bar Saturday. He said the group included several offensive lineman and other offensive players.
Nice to see his offensive line does no better job protecting him off the field. Also, considering their past few seasons, can't the entire Notre Dame team be described as "offensive" players?

Is it me or does this seem a tad arrogant?
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4700243

Notre Dame players have scheduled a players meeting for Monday while awaiting word on the fate of coach Charlie Weis.

The meeting, set for midafternoon, will include a vote on whether the players want to play in a bowl game after a 6-6 season. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players' wishes in deciding on a bowl trip.

A 6 and 6 team deciding on whether they want to go to a bowl game or not. They should be @#$%ing grateful to even be invited. :x

I interpreted that as them being embarrassed at being asked when they only had a .500 record, and trying to decide if they should accept an invitation to play in a bowl despite having such a poor season. If more teams refused to accept invitations if they didn't have winning records, maybe we'd pare back the bowl game schedule to the point where all of the games would be worth watching and all the bowls would deserve to exist.

(I'm no particular fan of Notre Dame and I think Weis is not much of a coach -- and also one of the most physically revolting people I've had the misfortune to see -- but if that's the intent here, even if it's motivated by arrogant institutional pride, I'm entirely behind it)

indeed. Florida and Alabama are both decent. twill be interesting.
I wish there was a playoff.

Texas might deserve a shot depending on how the do against Nebraska but none of those other teams impress me much.

I want to see them get pounded into the pile that they are.

The absolute worst thing is all the Big 10 teams that are so highly ranked? really? the Big 10 sucks. every year. they suck.
the nightmare scenario is some dumb Big 10 team playing one of those wanna-bes and getting beat because the Big 10 sucks.
Then the wannabes thinking they're something. ugh.

Two or three teams barely in the top 10? Yea, that's extremely over ranked isn't it. They obviously fit in with their wins and losses and have done better than the Pac 10. Get over yourself.

It's the PAC 10 and the Big Ten (11), along with ESPN, that are keeping us from a playoff system. The SEC, Big 12, ACC and Fox have come out in favor of playoffs.

dannye: Because the SEC does a lot better? LSU played Washington (lol, their only win is against USC, and USC ALWAYS drops small games after a big-game win), Tulane (who?) and Louisiana-Lafayette (again, who?). Oh. And Louisiana Tech. Whoopdeedoo. 'Bama beat VT (impressive), but also played Chattanooga, Florida International, and North Texas. Those 3 teams I think even Illinois could have beaten this year. Florida played Charleston Southern, Troy, and Florida International. Again, nobodies.

So...your point was?

JAE: No doubt. But I think that they only have come out because they know someone else would say no. Every conference is in it for the money, and they all know the current system gives them way more money (obviously, it's pretty trivial to work in the bowl system to a playoff system...but would they go through the effort). There are other impediments to a playoff. For instance, these are students. They have classes to attend and final exams to take. As long as we are keeping up the pretense, you really can't expect them to have to take final exams during a week of football, can you? Granted, most of them are basket weaving majors, but I've seen the rosters for quite a few teams in the big ten, and I have seen a fair number of science/engineering students in there (i.e. they have real classes).

The NCAA does it very successfully with the Division I-AA, Division II and Division III schools. Basketball players miss far more class time than football players, and the NCAA doesn't seem the least bit concerned by that.

Hmm.

Good point. Disregard that statement. Haha.

I wonder why it is that so many ADs and University Presidents have mentioned that in discussions about Playoffs?

Because the revenue from playoff games will likely end up in the NCAA's pocket whereas the revenue from bowl games goes to the schools.

But that is understandable. As a student, I would hate for the NCAA to get money that should go to my school, because that means that one way or another, I'll be paying the difference. Whether that ends up being in ticket prices (already outrageous here at OSU) or tuition.

The only way to get ADs and Presidents to vote for playoffs is to ensure them that in so doing they will not lose money. Ugly, but true.

That was quite an impressive showing of D by Nebraska. Makes it interesting to see how many voters will put TCU or Cincy against Bama instead of Texas (more likely TCU as Cincy had an equally unimpressive game).

Loved seeing Tebow cry. Loved seeing any potential draft position movement he had plummet. Loved seeing Urban Myer lose. What a wonderful game that was.
