Since neither are systems to brag about, everyone will have to take my word for it.

Kiddo PC Foxconn G31MXK (or something like that - a cheap board), Celeron 440 stock 2Ghz, 2.66 Stable, no extra volts, stock Intel cooler from a C2Q, which mean the aluminum is a bit taller, whoop.

Media PC Foxconn MCP73 7050/610i cheap mobo Celeron 420 1.6 Stock, 2.4 Stable, extra .1V - when running full blast about 1.43V total, totally safe. Stock PentiumD cooler, from old build.

Cheap memory so I have to work the G31 chipset to keep the memory from going over about 850 effective MHz, on the NVidia chipset you can detach the RAM speed from the FSB speed - I cannot adequately describe it, but the memory frequency is not locked to the FSB. Kinda cool. Cheap memory in both cases.

Both Celerons OC'ed really make their respective systems snappier...but they get bogged down fast.

I just bought a celron e3200 for 39.99 to slap together a second pc from some spare parts i had. After just simply changing the jumpers on my msi mother board i have it running at 4.01ghz on stalk voltage with the included heatsink. I'm going to install my ocz vanquisher heat sink on it and see if i can get to go higher. i'll post some screens after i do.Fyi it's stock speed is 2.2 this reminded me why i love dirt cheap intel cpu's .

I currently have my i5 750 running at 4.21 Ghz at 1.4v. It runs a little warmer than I would like it to right now, but my AS5 still has to settle in. I am getting around 40C idle and 70C load under water cooling. I think I need a bigger radiator/better fans for better temps.

I bought an p5n-e from emkubed last time I saw him and ran my e2140 up from 1.6 to 3.1 on stock voltages. That was pretty nice for such a cheap chip :D

My FX-6100 is proving to be a weird case.
at stock voltage, it'll boot to 4200 mhz, but sometimes freeze in startup
at 4000 mhz, it appears rock solid, I can game, I get perfromance boosts, but when running 6x Prime 95, one core fails about 3 hours in.

I'm bumping the voltage a bit now - 4600 mhz with the voltage bump returend similar results to 4000 mhz no voltbump except Prime95 failed sooner, and on two cores. I'll keep you guys posted on the highest stable : )

[my previous highest prime-stable was 3.2 on a Core 2 Quad Q9300)

EDIT: 4400 mhz gave it 15 min on the torture test before two cores ERROR: ILLEGAL SUMOUT'd on prime95.

At least you can OC your FX. I can't set any settings manually in my BIOS without getting a no-boot with boot code 46. ASRock support has been helpful in trying to figure this out but between the two Bulldozer-supporting BIOSes for my board neither of them will let me OC (or even set stock settings manually).

Do you know how frustrating it is to have a badass watercooling setup, a brand new CPU that can clock to high heaven...and a crippled BIOS?

Thats brutal.

I think my cooling problem will actually be on one of the other parts of the chipset - Speedfan is showing one monitor hitting 50, but its not CPU.
I don't think cooling is a limiter in many cases, as I've kept the chip stable at 41 degrees through cooling but still run into prime errors.

When I left for work it had been torturetesting at 4.2ghz for maybe 15 min with no problem. Hopefully it's good to go when I get back.

I was reluctant at first about buying from them but the board itself is of great quality so far - just the BIOS is being finicky.

I really hope they get it sorted out soon though - it's painful seeing it running at 3.1 GHz (or 2.8 GHz under load...which ASRock confirmed as an issue and is looking into it) when I know it can easily pull well over 4 GHz.

EDIT: The temp hitting 50 C for you - could it be the socket diode? I know the one on my board reports roughly 9 C higher than the die sensor in the CPU.

Maybe. I'm thinking it's probably Northbridge, because the heatsink on there seems.. well, sketchy, and if i try to i can lift part of it off the board. not sure how stable it's attached. It also tends to be effected by the speed of my case fans far more than I'd expect a socket diode to be

Five hours into prime so far and it seems 4.2ghz and change is my "highest stable OC"
I honestly bet I could push to around 4.6, but I want to keep my case fans as low as possible (Corsair 600T)

The Setup:
2500K
ROG gene Z
CM Hyper12+
Corsair 400R

The Overclock
4.3GHz @ 1.320V- Stable after Prime 95 testing
VRM 350
PLL Disabled

The Temps
mid to high 50's C under stress

I feel like I'm getting too low an overclock for too high a voltage?? I tried 45x and 1.35V and did not boot to windows, i heard should be able to get up to 47x with that voltage...am I maybe missing something?

as always with overclocking, your mileage may vary, 4.3 is certainly no slouch. Makes me want to try to get another 100mhz out of my processor with the same cooler to match you. You could always lock in at 45, bring your ram down a step, and try increasing bus?

I had my Core i7-2600K up to 4.6 GHz just for giggles shortly after I assembled it, but I'm satisfied with stock performance.

My best overclock was a Socket-A Duron-600 that I ran up to 1100 MHz.

I know this is old school but I had a Athlon 2500+ running at 2400mhz.
System was water cooled with a Danger Den Maze 4.

Prior machine to was a duron 500mhz which i took to 1ghz and later a 1700+ to 2000mhz.

Current machine I took an E85400 to 3.8 ghz but could never get it stable.
Switched to a q6600 on same mainboard and took it to 3.6ghz.
Using a Xigmatek s1284 with the optional back-plate and standard fan.
Main machine: Core I7 -2600K @ 4.0Ghz / 16 gig ram / Radeon RX 580 8gb / 500gb toshiba ssd / 5tb hd
Old machine: Core 2 quad Q6600 @ 3ghz / 8 gig ram / Radeon 7870 / 240 gb PNY ssd / 1tb HD

OK, so I've always read that better equipment makes for better OC'ing. Now I find that's true from a personal experience.

I parted out a couple systems to finally deploy a Core i7 960 and 1366 mobo around xmas, and put together an HTPC.

I had leftover the following:
Asus P5K-E, skt 775
ValueRam DDR2-667
CM690 really big airy case
Zalman 775 orb cooler
Picked up an OCZ 400W PSU used. I have another of these - the rails are very stable.

All of this to work on an old Celeron 420, C2D based, 1.6 GHz stock.

My best previous was 2.4 on a cheap mobo, with stock air cooling courtesy of the Intel push-pin HSF.

I just nailed 3.0 GHz :D with only a few tweaks: Disable spread spectrum, 1.9V on the RAM, 375 FSB, RAM jacked back to 533 so when the bus is increased the effective MHz is right around 800, Core Voltage at 1.45 (though HWMonitor reads 1.43). I ran Prime95 for about 10 minutes and maximum temp was about 56C.

I'm a stone's throw from 400 MHz on the FSB. That would result in 100% OC. Wonder what'll happen...only way to find out is to try. 8)

Integer, you might want to pick up an inexpensive Coolermaster 212 Evo to bring those temps down- after that, you should be able to push it a little higher on stock voltage. Ivy's overclocking strength on the desktop is not high clockspeeds, but moderately high clockspeeds at stock voltage!

Hey Airmantharp, am already using a Hyper 212 Evo. One of the reasons for the higher temperatures could be that my fan settings are set to too low. The Cooler Master fan is at 620 rpm while folding. Also, the room gets quite warm during the day when there is no air conditioning.

Will try to increase the fan speeds a little more to see if they bring temps down.

Celeron 300A @ 600 on an Abit BE6.

I think I must have hit a motherboard/RAM issue because it managed that with only 2.0v and it was really unstable at 110fsb too, before the FSB divider dropped from 1/3 to 1/4.

Those were the days. Overclocking isn't anywhere near as much fun now :(

My e8400 got to 3.83 could have gone more but i got the one of those batch's which dint overclock well need a lot of voltage also 1.37 :(
And its not even stable in any kind of stress test  but my games run fine  most of the time get an occasional blue screen 1 every 2-3 days but that's it
it does work fine on 3.93 also if i bump the voltage to 1.4 but that's too high so I Dont bother with that setting

You're never guaranteed 5GHz, you might get lucky, you might get one that barely hits 4.5GHz.

These are the top 5 coolers for intel, ie - lowest temperatures (but not necessarily quiet)
List is updated at Frostytech very regularly.

Corsair Hydro H100 (two fans)
Spire Thermax Eclipse II (two fans)
Corsair Hydro H80
Coolermaster TPC-812
Noctua NH-C14 (two fans)
