NEC FE950+BK...I was planning on buying this monitor. I need a 19-incher that's easy on the eyes for staring at hours on end (it's going to be on my dorm room comp). I'll be watching TV and DVD's on it, and doing a lot of video editing. So I was looking for something with nice brightness/contrast, good performance at relatively high resolutions, and good geometry. From my research this monitor seems to a pretty good choice. If anybody has any info on this monitor I might want to know, I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

If you're looking for 19 inch monitors with crazy resolutions, the Viewsonic P95f hits 1920x1440 at 77hz, and from what I know, the Viewsonic CRTs are among the higher quality ones. It'll knock you down around $100 more than the NEC though. The NEC does look like a better deal.

For a price similar to that of the ViewSonic P95f (just under US$400), NEC-Mitsubishi offer the Multisync FP955 with similar features. The P95f is the nicest 19" monitor that I have ever personally laid eyes on. The FP955 actually claims an even smaller pitch.

The best resolution for most 19" monitors is going to be around 1280x1024. Look for one that will do 1280x1024 at 80Hz or higher refresh rate. The FE950+ or the PF790 will do that at 89Hz, while the FP955 or P95f will do 1280x1024 at 101 or 107Hz, respectively.
