I may have found a solution to the UT2004 Mac issue (no voices). I'll try this patch and see if it helps.

Well, I see it refers to OpenAL. It's been a long time ago, but when I tried the 64-bit version of UT2004, I seem to recall that the sound was OpenAL only. I don't remember the specifics, but if memory serves it did seem to lack some of the functionality of the 32-bit version. Since the Mac compiled version uses OpenAL, you could be up against something similar.

However, one of the posters noted the following:
I also experimented with:

[ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem]
Channels=16

and

Channels=32

I currently have it at 32, and I have robot voices, alien voices, etc

Perhaps that tip will help.

It's actually called "LJA's UT2004 server", but indeed it is intended to cater to the TR brethren.

I appear to have lost my install discs, but Steam has it for sale pretty cheap. I assume that if I buy it from Steam that I can still play on the LJA server?

Shouldn't be a problem.

Question to the group: is it possible to extract your cache when playing a Steam version of UT2004? Obviously that's not a critical item; I'm just curious if anyone knows the answer. My guess is "no."

You can extract the cache from a "Steam" copy of UT2004. You just have to tell the extract program where UT2004 is located. The steam version is located in Steam\steamapps\(your SteamID)\UT2004 directory.

I have an appointment with an ophthalmologist today about some weird eye issues. Assuming I get a clean bill of health, I'll start hitting this nights after work.
