Wrist watches

Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:25 am

How many of you have quit wearing time pieces due to carry a cell ? From time to time (haha) I will stop by the wristwatch displays and see if anything new is out. Back before computers and feature rich cell phones I had a few of the Casio Data Bank watches. The first one was around 1980 and had a cool "number invaders" game on it.

I never wear a wristwatch these days but still miss the convenience at times when I have to pull my phone from it's holster and look at the display. I may invest in a cheap Timex soon.....

I always wear a watch. I hate having to fumble through my pocket to get my phone out just to see what time it is.

I have a bit of a time piece 'obsession'. I have 4 different watches that I wear on a regular basis. I'm always stopping to look at watches at different jewelery stores.

I've been wearing the same old analog watch for about ten years, and I've owned the piece since '92.

It's a lot more convenient than having to pick up your phone, and it's a bit easier to covertly check the time that way as well.

I think that some people have this idea that we will one day carry only one device in our pockets and it will do everything. I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

A watch is a better time-telling experience than a cell phone. It's always on my wrist, so it's very convenient.

I have yet to own a cell phone, but I've been wearing wristwatches for decades.

No, since it only does one thing at a time. :p

LOL, QFT.

I don't wear watch, I have been using Windows mobile phone with time tell application and that is always hooked to my bluetooth headset. Just press the button and the mobile tells you the time, In speaker as well as in headset, so even if i am not with my cell while roaming in the office, (means the phone is at desk) i can still hear the time through my headset.

I haven't worn a wrist watch for about 5 years. As soon as I started college I stopped wearing them, mainly because I keep taking them off and due to that I lose them fairly easily.

I'm thinking of wearing it again, but I have no idea in wrist watch shopping!

Any suggestions as to where I can procure a relatively nice time piece for about $100 or so? :)

That's a cool setup Jigar. After losing my Aliph Jawbone 1 week after paying $129 for it I kinda soured at the Bluetooth thing for awhile lol. If I used Bluetooth that would be thing thing to try since my current phone is the HTC TP2 with a cooked 6.5.3 ROM.... that and i use a softcase with no buttons exposed.

I bought a gimmick watch a couple of years ago. It was cheap Timex Expedition that met an early grave. Damaged on an ATV ride. I think I'll shop for another soon.

You mean iPhones don't communicate telapathically with their owner ? :o

I seem to have little girl arms (or wrists anyways) and any wrist watch i wear is way too big and ends up dangling. :x

Get a smaller wristband. Mine's got several holes for different-sized wrists.

Or are you using one of those expanding metal wristbands? Ugh, hates them we do.

WM 6.5.3 is a cool rom, i hope the cooked rom that you have installed has all zero bugs.
I am currently using HTC VIVA and i have yet to find any good cooked 6.5 rom. For now SPB shell 3.5 is doing a good job. :D

Sorry for derailing this thread.

i wear my watch next to all the time(a timex ironman watch), in the span of a year it seems to get about anywhere from 1 or 2 hours total off the wrist time, basically wear em till something breaks and forces me to get a new watch.
and yes its much easier to check the watch than a cell phone, sometimes just cant get to the phone
probably drinking some tea.

And here I thought I was bad. I would have that many if I didn't get rid of about 5 watches a few years ago. My problem is that I'm really picky as to how my watch looks. Aesthetics are everything when it comes to watches and most of the new styles are quite ugly nowadays as far I'm concerned.

I haven't word a watch dedicatedly since 2001, but I do wear them from time to time. I had one watch that had a calculator hidden underneath and I thought I was pretty badass.

I used to wear one constantly due to my (once) athletic inclinations, but then I lost it and realized I was much calmer and more focused if I didn't have one on.

This is how I am. My wife bought me a $750 Burberry watch for Christmas last year. I wear it once in a while, but even when I do, I don't look at it for the time.

i prefer to wear a watch. they're easier to see and read in general (point being that's what they're MADE for) and are more accurate. cellphone clocks rarely show the seconds, and their stopwatch functions aren't nearly as accurate. my current cellphone seems to gain about 4-5 minutes per week for some reason. also, i go to the beach in the summer. watch can survive sand and water, cellphone cannot.

I wear my timex ironman 24/7, shower and sleep included. I love being able to know the time within a split second of wondering what time it is. The thing is practically indestructible, the battery only dies every 3 years or so, and I can take it in the water.

I'm certainly not at the level of JJCDAD, but I wear a watch every day and own several. I own two everyday watches, two dress watches, and a "sport watch". Yes, I use them for time keeping, but they are also the only jewelry I wear, other than my wedding ring. All are analog except the sport watch. Each has its role, depending on activity, style of dress, and color palette of the outfit.

I just prefer watches for time keeping. Partly, I think, because it is way easier to simply look at my wrist when I quickly need to check the time, especially if my hands are full.

I must just be unlucky. The light in my Timex Ironman died after six months or so. Now I can't use the watch in a dark room. It was just a reminder to me to never again spend more than $15 on a watch.

I run a Casio CA53W-1 normally. Old-school calculator watch, cheap, and durable.

And then I have an Orient... I forget the model number, but it's numbered 13 to 24, instead of 1 to 12. And it has a slide rule.

Finally, I've got a dead Abacus Wrist PDA.

I own a Torgoen and a Citizen Skyhawk, and I wear both regularly. Watches are a classy way to round out your appearance and says a lot about you, like the kind of shoes you wear and the way you're dressed.

Ive had one ironman light go out on me before, it was replaced by the same 30 dollar model after a good 2 years, right before they stopped production of it. the light didn't technically die but it was like i had to look at the thing nearly sideways, like 170 degrees just to see the thing "light up" in the dark it was basically just super dim.

in my experience, ironman watches are pretty hardy. i've owned several in the past, replacing them only because i lost them or gradual water damage (about 2 years of teaching swimming lessons causing it to fog up after being in the water for a while. still ran, though). currently wearing a casio.

I used to wear a watch all the time, then lost it. I started to replace it, but I realized that I usually just don't care what time it is. And when I do I almost always have a clock of some sort in front of me.
