I'm pretty sure this isn't news. CSI was always set for 2008 at the earliest thanks to Tukwila slippage (and whatever else is tying it up between the two groups within Intel), and that was more-or-less the timeframe for Nehalem (at least before Intel started trying to pull NGMA in sooner). Put two and two together...
Edit: yep, the Inquirer itself reported this back in October. But I guess you can get more credit for a rumor if you scoop yourself by reporting it multiple times. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27192 It's worth noting that when you're talking about a new microarchitecture atop a new platform interconnect strategy lots of things are likely to go wrong before they go right. Which is not to say that Intel won't get it out and working, just that it might take them longer than they think -- late 2008 instead of early, for example, or 2009. |
