They had nice cards when I tried them a few years ago, but three things are unfortunate for them as far as the consumer market is concerned:
1. Their driver quality was relatively bad, it's amazing how many quirks the cards have that were difficult to solve, and even installing the drivers alone was more of a hassle than the typical nVidia or ATI card. They need to make their drivers more robust and user friendly like the major two players in the consumer market - not counting Intel, king of integrated junk GPUs - if they haven't done so already. 2. They seem to have given up on the consumer market in terms of 3D power, I guess they just don't have the manpower or expertise for it? They did manage to build a good bit of hype a few years ago with some high specs on one of their products, but the actual products didn't live up to expectations. 3. Prices were always a bit higher than competing products, I guess that's a mass production related issue, they probably don't mass produce as many of their chips to drive prices down more? Their cards did have excellent clean 2D display capabilities on their side, which was nice for doing daily work on a PC... ah well. |
