PureVideo HD doesn't tap the graphics card's shader power for HD video acceleration.
So, what is it using on the card? |

Didn't the studios all agree recently that both HD and BD would both not implement the ICT until 2010?
Other than that what kind of Monkey pays out $1200+ just to watch BD/HD on his PC? You could buy the top PS3 for half that. HDCP is not entering my thought process at all. If HD/BD becomes an issue for me, it will be on a big screen with player supplying it. Likely not until there is a winner and 2010 passes. For now I pass on paying extra for something that does NOTHING. |

HDCP support is not a feature. It's a limitation!
We would ALL rather have hardware that ignores HDCP and never deliberately degrades quality. The only people who want HDCP is the MPAA and TV studios. Unfortunately, they have a lot of power to force crap like HDCP on us, and also enough marketing to delude people that HDCP is something to HELP consumers, not restrict them. |

"NVIDIA says PCs without HDCP support will be forced to watch Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies at a quarter of their full resolution."
No problem, I just wont buy either products. simple yet effective. My dvd's look great on my tv, and my ATI card is already super shweeet! A word of wisdom, dont threaten consumers with your crap. They will look elsewhere. |

That's a large step forward, for sure. Lets just hope it doesn't flop like Creative's attempt at DVD-audio.

fortunately this isn't something I'd look for when I go shopping since my "poor taste" and "backwards thinking" makes DVDs and even plain Xvid good enough for my needs :P

Why do these companies keep claiming you need a dual-core ÜberTron 6000 just to play 1080p video? My A64 3500+/6600GT handles it easily, with well under 70% usage.
OK, it stutters if I play the 1080p H.264 Cars trailer with QuickTime, but that's only because QuickTime sucks. If I use Media Player Classic or VLC instead, it copes just fine, and with the CoreAVC codec installed too, it doesn't even break a sweat. |

Isn't this a bit much for a news item? I mean, I think its good its mentioned, but 4 paragraphs basicly saying 'Nvidia has an HD decoder for PureVideo now'. It looks liek you pasted the entire press release for it...

So one 7600GT and the new XXXtremely expensive edition support HDCP. That'll make a great userbase for HD/BD.
I just hope it'll all be dead in a year. I can't imagine Joe 6 paying any price premium over DVD, only the folks with really high end plasmas and LCDs. |

nah, I think I'll just wait 2 years until this stuff is under $200 combined, rather than the $1200+ it requires now. thanks. It's not the definition anyway, it's the content.

"CyberLink shares a commitment with NVIDIA to delivering an uncompromising HD viewing experience on the PC," said Johnny Tseng, VP of Research and Development, CyberLink Corp. "High definition movies require dedicated graphics processing to deliver smooth playback. Together with CyberLink's advanced video technologies, consumers can be assured that they'll have a great viewing experience with NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology and CyberLink PowerDVD."
And cyberlink is also the one making the HD decoder for ATI, nicely done of them, get support and cash and business from both camps!
